This week Google announced the Pixel Buds A-Series earbuds, albeit by accident. Over the past few months, various rumors and leaks have hinted at the existence of the latest Pixel-branded wireless earbuds, but the recent accidental announcement marks the first time that Google has directly named the upcoming wearable in an official post.
Google debuted the first Pixel Buds back in 2017. Being a first-generation product, they were not without their issues. However, Google tried again last year with the Pixel Buds 2. As to be expected, the sequel fared better than the original and drew more favorable comparisons with other popular options at a similar price. With the second Buds version building positively on the first, Google is now preparing to launch the next entry in the series.
On Twitter, Google revealed its cards through a now-deleted Tweet captured by 9to5 Google. The company's Android account tweeted about the new Pixel Buds A-Series and touted its "one-tap Bluetooth pairing" with Fast Pair. The Tweet also confirms that the feature is compatible with devices running on Android 6.0 and newer. Finally, the accidental post also included an image of the new Buds A-Series in white. Besides the few notes included in the Tweet, including the confirmation of the name, Google did not reveal when they will go on sale or for how much.
What Else Is Known About The Pixel Buds A-Series?
Compared to more tight-lipped companies, Google is somewhat notorious for accidentally leaking its secrets and the Pixel Buds A-Series is no exception. In a previous email sent out to Google Nest users, the company confirmed how the wearable looks in green, also confirming the overall design of the earbuds doesn't appear to have changed too much compared to the current Pixel Buds 2. The two images also seem to indicate that the interior of the charging case will share the same color as the earbuds, although the actual outside of the case will be white. A recent FCC filing suggested the wearable might improve the reliability of connections between the earbuds and connected devices. Based on the recently deleted tweet, Google is indeed attempting to market the Bluetooth support, in addition to the "quality sound."
Not much else is known about the wearable, unfortunately, and even the naming scheme doesn't reveal whether the upcoming device is the third in the series, a premium variant of the current model, or a budget-friendly option. However, Google has used A branding recently to denote a more affordable Pixel option, which might suggest these earbuds will arrive at a cheaper price than the previous version. Either way, it might not be long before more details on the Pixel Buds A-Series comes to light, considering Google's annual I/O conference begins on May 18. Although the conference tends to be more software-focused, the company has launched products during the event in the past. Making this year's event a good candidate for when Google might announce its new Pixel Buds A-Series … again.
