Google Photos can be a great tool to help spread holiday cheer, thanks to its Shared Album feature that makes smartphone pictures more easily accessible. When family and friends come together to celebrate, the moment is often captured with a large number of photos. Now, the fun can live on after the party is over through an online photo gallery that's easy to share.

There are plenty of cloud storage options available, but for the best experience, some require a membership, such as Amazon Prime Photos, or an expensive subscription like iCloud. It's not that Apple's price for storage isn't competitive but rather that there's no way to optimize storage so it doesn't fill up quickly and force users to upgrade or delete photos and videos. Google Photos offers competitive pricing and has the best solutions for minimizing cost.

The Shared Album option in Google Photos provides a shareable link that allows anyone with the link to see pictures that are added. Those with access to the link can also be given permission to upload their own photos, opening up the possibility of creating a group album showing the event from different viewpoints. Any album can be made into a Shared Album simply by tapping the three vertical dots at the top right to see more choices and then tapping on Options to reveal the link-sharing toggle switch. Switching this authorizes Google to create a Shared Album and opens up more options. Tapping Invite people provides the option to share via social media, or to someone from the user's Google contacts.

Collaborate And Comment On Photos

With a Shared Album, Google Photos can be used as a semi-private online social hub for a particular group to upload and view memories together. If the Collaborate toggle is switched on, anyone with the link can upload their own photos to the Shared Album. Comments & likes can be enabled as well, to inspire some discussion about a photo. This is also a great way to include anyone that can't physically be there.

Soon after the event, it can be fun to add details that might be forgotten later. As time goes by, the Google Photos Shared Album can become a place to reminisce about the fun or dramatic events of that time. One of the great things about Google Photos is that it works with almost any device. There are apps for both iPhone and Android, and the Google Photos web app can be opened in any browser, making it easy for everyone to participate.
