The Google Nest service is currently experiencing some technical difficulties that are affecting users across the country. It currently remains unclear what is causing the issue or how long the service will remain down for, although many device owners are now reporting down issues, suggesting the problem is widespread enough. In the meantime, here’s what is known about the current Google Nest outage.

Google Nest took over from the company’s previous Google Home line and now includes a variety of connected and smart home products, including the Google Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max smart displays. However, as these are primarily connected devices, they are prone to security or connection issues and in some cases, going down completely, which can become immediately problematic for owners of these smart home devices.

A short time ago, a number of user reports started to surface on social media indicating that they were experiencing issues with their Google Nest products and services. Since then, the number of reports have continually increased with users reporting that not only are their devices not working as expected, but neither are the Nest apps, as well as the option to log in through the service's website. In addition, Down Detector has also registered a recent and sudden spike in complaints, with many of the comments echoing the same Google Nest problems.

What’s Happening With Google Nest?

Nest Status

At the moment, it remains unclear what exactly is causing the issue that's affecting Google Nest devices and their owners. However, this is a known issue with Google having recently taken to social media to confirm the outage. According to responses by the Google Nest Twitter handle, the company is aware that there's an issue and is currently classifying the situation as a “partial outage.”

As part of the company’s response to questions on social media, Google is linking out to its Nest service status page so that affected customers can keep up with the latest information on the current situation. At present, the page seems to suggest the issue is primarily with the Nest apps, and that devices are not affected. If correct, and although some may be having trouble accessing their Nest Cam live video feed, smart thermometer, or Nest Protect, the issue is understood to be with the apps. In other words, Nest customers should not specifically worry that any of the security-related features and benefits offered with their Nest smart home products are not performing as they should be, that's according to Google, at least.
