An official cast list for Good Omens season 2 has been released, confirming which characters will be returning to the series, as well as revealing information about brand new roles. The fantasy comedy series, created by Neil Gaiman and based on the book of the same name by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, initially premiered as a six-part limited series on Amazon Prime back in 2019. However, in June 2021, Amazon announced that Good Omens season 2 had been confirmed, with stars David Tennant and Micheal Sheen returning as Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively. The season has been in production in Scotland since October.

Good Omens season 1 follows the unlikely, age-old friendship between the rebellious demon Crowley and mild-mannered angel Aziraphale, who have been on Earth as representatives of Heaven and Hell since The Beginning. Having grown fond of Earth over the many centuries, the unlikely duo teamed up in an attempt to stop the Antichrist and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from destroying it and inciting Armageddon. Season 1 boasted a vast and impressive ensemble cast, and Good Omens season 2 promises to expand on the original source material and add even more eccentric and strange characters into the mix.

Alongside Tennant and Sheen, Jon Hamm has already been confirmed to return as Gabriel, leader of Heaven. Now, more cast members have been revealed. Deadline has confirmed that Derek Jacobi will be reprising his role as Metatron, the spokesperson for God. The League of Gentlemen (Mark Gattis, Steve Pemberton, and Reese Shearsmith) will also return to the series, alongside actress Niamh Walsh. The cast list also reveals that Benedict Cumberbatch and Frances McDormand, who voiced Satan and God respectively, will not be returning for season 2. Read a statement from Gaiman about the casting below:

“We are so thrilled that we were able to get so many fabulous actors to return to the Good Omens family. Some of them are reprising roles, some of them are playing completely new characters. And we are just as thrilled by the people coming to the Good Omens team for the first time. We have an ensemble cast of astonishing talent, and seeing what they’re giving us is a daily treat. I can’t wait until the rest of the world gets that treat, too.”

David Tennant and Michael Sheen give knowing looks in Good Omens.

Joining the cast is Dame Siân Phillips, who played a role in the original 1984 adaptation of Dune. In addition, new characters will be played by Tim Downie, Pete Firman, Andi Osho, and Alex Norton. These cast members join an already confirmed line-up that includes Miranda Richardson, Nina Sosanya, Maggie Service, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda, and Shelley Conn.

There are still a few more names to be confirmed or denied, as it’s not clear yet whether Adria Arjona and Jack Whitehall will be reprising their roles as Anathema Device and Newton Pulsifer. However, it's clear that Good Omens season 2 will be bringing both new and familiar faces into the mix to make for a jam-packed follow-up to the hit series. With a great ensemble cast, an intriguing mystery to solve, and many questions from season 1 left unanswered, Good Omens season 2 is already shaping up to be just as delightful and well-received as the first.
