Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens share one of the most exciting working relationships to exist in a literary adaptation. A demon and an angel working together to stop an apocalypse is something that can only stem from the minds of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The mini-series, based on the award-winning novel of the same name, was created by Gaiman, so it kept true to the essence of the original literary work.

But the fandom has many questions, especially pertaining to the partnership of Aziraphale and Crowley. The novel states that Aziraphale is "gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide.’ So his sexuality is acknowledged, and he and Crowley obviously have feelings for each other. So, why wouldn’t they admit it? Moreover, are they really bad at their jobs? Here are some questions from Good Omens that the fandom wants answered.

Why Didn’t They Stop The First Apocalypse?

Aziraphale and Crowley have known each other for 6,000 years and actually witnessed Noah loading up his arc right before the big flood, which wiped out all of the human race.

But considering how badly they want to save the world from Armageddon in the present day, why didn’t they want the same back then? It’s hard to believe that they only want it now because they love what the world has evolved into or because Aziraphale doesn’t want to part with his crepes.

Why Didn’t They Keep In Touch?

Aziraphale and Crowley have always been like college friends on Facebook popping up in each other’s lives abruptly, and for the most part, one is surprised to see the other. But considering their sneaky ‘arrangement’ of taking care of each other’s earthly duties, why weren’t they constantly in touch?

Considering they were the only divine representation on earth, irrespective of their fundamental differences, it doesn’t make sense for them to disappear on each other for decades.

Were They Really Not Being Watched?

One of Aziraphale’s major anxieties was the fact that the ‘head office’ or heaven will find out about his transgressions and will punish him for working closely with a demon. Crowley assures him that as long as they make reports in time, no one will actually bother to check because everyone hates paperwork.

But this can’t be entirely true. Yes, Michael catches them but she’s pretty late because Aziraphale and Crowley have been partners in crime for thousands of years! It’s baffling that Gabriel or even God would never find out about these things.

How Did Crowley Always Find Aziraphale?

Before they started collaborating on their Antichrist project, Aziraphale and Crowley would only see each other once every few decades. But Crowley somehow always knew how to locate Aziraphale. This should be fairly simple considering Crowley is a divine being and obviously has supernatural powers.

But if Crowley could locate Aziraphale, why couldn’t the latter find Crowley when he needed his help, especially when he got trapped in difficult situations with the Nazis or when he was about to be executed during the French Revolution?

Why Did They Need To Travel For Food?

This may sound basic, but why did an angel and a demon need to travel just to eat and drink well? Granted, Aziraphale fancied Parisian crepes from a particular restaurant, but considering their abilities, shouldn’t they be able to have whatever material things they want at their fingertips?

Crowley could clearly transfer wine from his stomach to the bottle without even touching it, and they both could perform miracles whenever they wanted, so why waste time traveling across continents just for something so simple?

Is Aziraphale The Selfish One?

Both Aziraphale and Crowley try to find the Antichrist on their own, and Aziraphale actually succeeds in locating the child. But surprisingly, he does not tell Crowley about it, not even when they are in the middle of deciding their next steps.

But Crowley has consistently believed that their head offices do not care about them, so he and Aziraphale are on their own. And it’s very evident that if Crowley found out about the Antichrist, he would immediately tell Aziraphale. So it begs the questions, is Aziraphale the selfish friend, only thinking about how the information could benefit him and his bosses?

Why Did Aziraphale Reject The Idea Of Running Away With Crowley?

When things get decidedly worse and Aziraphale and Crowley hadn’t gotten their hands at the Antichrist yet, Crowley proposed that they should run away together to Alpha Centauri. They both suspected that their respective head offices would discover how they have messed things up. But Aziraphale rejects the idea outright and also denies their partnership, as he re-establishes the fact that they are on opposite sides.

Considering the turn of events, it would make a lot of sense for Aziraphale to accept his proposal, especially since he wasn’t especially keen to get back to heaven anyway.

Why Haven’t They Made Peace With Their Arrangement In 6,000 Years?

Aziraphale and Crowley realize pretty early on that they have been put on earth to cancel each other out in a way and they agree to take the easy way out and work together. But even after 6,000 years, neither of them, especially Aziraphale, seems to be confused about what their arrangement entails.

It’s baffling that in 6,000 years the angel and the demon would not have questioned why they are working together. It just seems like things should have settled between them by now.

Why Don’t They Acknowledge Their Feeling Towards One Another?

Aziraphale and Crowley have defied their divine head offices for 6,000 years to work closely with one another, thus breaking some major rules. But it would seem that they are doing everything except admit to each other how they feel.

It’s not clear why their feelings for each have to be off-limits, considering the alarming number of rules they have already broken? Since they have to spend their time on earth anyway, it’s weird that they wouldn’t act upon what they really want to do since they have the freedom.

Do They Actually Want A Future Together?

Though the ending of the book and the mini-series differs slightly, they both imply the same fate for the angel and the demon. Both endings suggest that heaven and hell have washed their hands off Aziraphale and Crowley and they are sent back to Earth and the show ends with them having lunch together.

But the question remains, now that they don’t have to abide by the rules, will they actually think about a future together? Fans have also asked if they want a future together at all, considering they both seem to enjoy their personal space.
