The Good Fight season 6 will be the show's last. The series is a spinoff of The Good Wife, which was created by Robert and Michelle King for CBS in 2009 and proceeded to run for seven seasons through 2016. The series starred Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, a housewife who resurrects her law career after a scandal involving her husband Peter (Chris Noth), the Cook County State's Attorney. Other major players included Matt Czuchry and Josh Charles. One of the key characters in the series was Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), who is one of the partners at the firm where Florrick works and appeared on every episode of The Good Wife.

When that series ended, Lockhart's story continued in a spinoff titled The Good Fight, which premiered on CBS All Access in 2017. It follows Lockhart after a financial scam results in her leaving her prestigious firm, when she and other women in the legal profession work their way back up the ladder. The series was the first original program for the streaming service, which has since been rebranded as Paramount+. Back in July 2021, the series was renewed for season 6, which will premiere on September 8, 2022.

Per DeadlineThe Good Fight season 6, which is currently shooting in New York City, will be the final season of the series. The cast in this final season includes John Slattery, Sarah Steele, Michael Boatman, Nyambi Nyambi, Charmaine Bingwa, Audra McDonald, and Andre Braugher. Although both Kings admit that they'll never say never, this season is intended to be an end to the entire franchise, with no more Good Wife spinoffs set to follow it.

Even though the show is ending, it won't skimp on its ripped-from-the-headlines drama. The contemporary topics that this season will cover include Roe v. Wade, voting rights, and a potential impending civil war. The creators want this season to be imbued with a sense of déjà vu as Lockhart fights battles she thought had already been won, highlighted by the return of The Good Wife characters Eli Gold (Alan Cumming), and Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston).

The creators also promise that this episode of The Good Fight will include more onscreen violence than previous episodes of either series. This is meant to reflect the shift as the general public feeling turns from political solutions to violent ones. Although fans will certainly be sorry to see the franchise go after 13 long years, there is no doubt that they are pulling out all the stops to go out with a bang.
