Gone Girl worked as both a thriller and dark comedy, with the film retaining the book's many shocking twists. It's one of Fincher's most purely enjoyable movies and features great supporting performances from Carrie Coon, Kim Dickens and Tyler Perry. It's simple to track down online, though it's not currently available to stream from platforms like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime in the U.S.
Instead, Gone Girl can be found on DirecTV or rented or purchased from the usual outlets, including Vudu, Google Play, YouTube, iTunes and Redbox. After David Fincher spent years developing a planned sequel to World War Z, which reportedly would have focused on Brad Pitt's character hunting down the formula for a virus that would make zombies fight each other, the sequel was cancelled by Paramount.
Instead, Fincher's long-awaited next movie will be Mank, a biopic of Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz. Gary Oldman will play the title role in the Netflix original, and the script was penned by the director's late father Jack Fincher. There's a small possibility of a Gone Girl sequel happening that could focus on Amy and Nick's teenage child, though it if a follow-up did happen Fincher's involvement isn't certain. Between World War Z and Alien 3, his luck with sequels hasn't been great.
