A golden NES Nintendo World Championships cartridge is currently being sold on eBay for a staggering $1 million price tag. The Nintendo World Championships cartridges are among the most valuable games out there, as only a few hundred were made during the initial championships.

The Nintendo World Championships was an event in 1990 in which players competed in select NES games. The championships eventually returned during Nintendo’s E3 2015 conference. A limited number of custom cartridges were made for the 1990 event consisting of customized versions of Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris. The grey cartridges are already considered to be among the most valuable of NES cartridges, but as seen by this new listing, the gold cartridges take the price to a whole new level.

The golden cartridge priced at $1 million is currently being sold on eBay by user smpratte. The cartridge is placed in a sealed case and is described as “the most valuable video game in existence.” The listing has over 1,200 watchers at the time of writing and is still up for sale for anyone that wishes to spend that hefty price tag on one of the most valuable video games there are today.

There have been many NES games that have sold for high prices in the past. Sealed copies of the original Super Mario Bros. have been sold in the past, with one selling for $660,000. However, this incredibly valuable Nintendo World Championships gold cartridge trumps that price with its million-dollar mark. Furthermore, only 26 gold cartridges were made and given away through a giveaway by the Nintendo Power magazine. With supposedly less than 20 golden cartridges confirmed to exist, it’s no wonder that these cartridges are considered the most valuable video games of all time.

It remains to be seen whether this cartridge will be sold at its current asking price. Even for an incredibly rare game, a million bucks is a lot of cash to fork over. It’s unknown whether smpratte will negotiate for a lower price or not. But if this cartridge is sold, this could overtake the aforementioned Super Mario Bros. NES cartridge as the most expensive game of all time. Should anyone be willing to pay that price tag for the ultimate gaming collection piece, having a golden Nintendo World Championships cartridge put on display would certainly make for a nice bragging piece for any gamer collector out there.
