Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Goldbergs season 10, episode 16.While The Goldbergs season 10 has spent a lot of screentime on Adam’s latest relationship, this will ensure that the family sitcom gives its lead character a satisfying sendoff in the finale. The Goldbergs will end with season 10. The news that the nostalgic ‘80s-set family sitcom will wrap up at the end of its tenth outing did not come as a major surprise to long-time viewers, particularly after the series killed off Murray at the beginning of season 10. However, there are still a few stubborn plot holes that The Goldbergs season 10 must address first.

For one thing, the show’s spinoff already specified that Barry reunited with his high school sweetheart Lainey, so The Goldbergs season 10 should break up Barry and Joanne to facilitate this. The Goldbergs should also address whether the Goldberg children ever moved out of their mother’s home since all three still live there in season 10. This is particularly strange for Erica, who is married with a baby, and Barry, who is in his second year of medical school. However, moving out of home is also a major life step that the hero of The Goldbergs, Adam, must take.

The Goldbergs season 10, episode 16, “The Better Annie,” was primarily centered on Adam’s (eventually successful) attempts to get his family’s approval for his girlfriend, Carmen. The Goldbergs almost forgot this plot line earlier in the season, but it still seemed strange that the series would dedicate one of its last episodes to Adam’s attempts to introduce his family to his latest romantic partner. However, not only do the Goldbergs decide they like Carmen, this plot leads Adam to tell her he loves her. This means the pair could move in together as The Goldbergs season 10 ends.

The real reason that Adam needed to get his family’s approval for his relationship with Carmen was so that The Goldbergs could move him out of his family home. There are numerous reasons that The Goldbergs had to end with season 10 as the show’s final outing, but Adam’s advancing age is high on this list. As the main character of The Goldbergs and the show’s narrator, Adam’s story is central to the series. It would be bizarre for the show to end with him in the same place that he began, particularly when Adam moves out and on with his life (something that his relationship with Carmen accommodates) makes more thematic sense.

Why Adam Needs To Move Out In The Goldbergs Finale

The Goldbergs Adam and Carmen

At its heart, The Goldbergs is about Adam’s coming of age. Since he already graduated from high school in The Goldbergs season 9 finale, there is no better way to show that he has come of age than Adam moving in with his girlfriend. One of the biggest problems The Goldbergs season 10 struggled with was an inability to justify all three of the Goldberg children still living in their childhood home. So it makes sense for Adam to buck this trend to end the series, and now that he has a solid relationship with Carmen, The Goldbergs season 10 finale can see the character do just that.
