A new character trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ gives viewers a look at Goku Black, a powerful villain from Dragon Ball Super who shares the signature moves and looks of his heroic counterpart, Goku. As Goku Black is still relatively new to the franchise, Dragon Ball FighterZ will serve as the character's second appearance in a console video game. The character was previously released as a pre-order bonus for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

Bandai Namco announced plans for Dragon Ball FighterZ in June of last year. Fans were excited to learn that the game would have strong similarities to the early installments of the fan-favorite Marvel vs. Capcom franchise by utilizing a 3 vs. 3 tag system. Developed by Arc System Works, FighterZ will deviate from past Dragon Ball games by introducing players to a whole new storyline along with a brand new character, rather than adapting stories from the anime. Fans can look forward to using characters like Gohan, Piccolo, and Krillin, as well as a number of characters from the Cell Saga, such as Android 16.

Bandai Namco has released a trailer featuring gameplay of Goku Black. We see Goku Black enter into his own version of the Super Saiyan Blue form, known as Super Saiyan Rose, giving his hair a lighter, reddish tint. Facing off against Future Trunk (the same foe he battled in the anime), Goku Black uses Super God Cut, an attack that creates weapons out of energy. We see him lashing out at Trunks with both a sword and a scythe. With the latter, Goku Black unleashes a devastating combo. Like other FighterZ characters, Goku Black has an assist character. He can team up with his Dragon Ball Super ally, Zamasu, for a giant orb of energy that could be his version of Goku's Spirit Bomb technique.

Goku Black's Super Saiyan Rose from Dragon Ball Super

Goku Black first debuted in the summer of 2016 and is one of only two characters in FighterZ to be introduced in Super, the other being Hit. As Goku Black has not had time to reach the same level of recognition as villains like Cell or Freiza, many fans may not be familiar with the character when they encounter him in FighterZ.

Though Goku Black may appear to be evil clone of Goku, he is actually a villain from a future timeline who stole Goku's body for evil purposes. After traveling to the present timeline, Goku Black battled Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks. The character even fused with a different version of himself to become even more powerful.
