Blockbuster monster movie Godzilla vs. Kong is crossing over with free to play naval warfare game World Of Warships for titanic combat on the high seas. Godzilla vs. Kong has been a hotly anticipated title for months now; fans have eagerly awaited the chance to see two of the film industry's most prominent giant monsters slug it out on the big screen. Reviews of the film following its March 25th release cite a visually impressive film in line with 2019's Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, held together by a weak plot and underwhelming human characters, which is unfortunately another standard of this genre of film.

On its face, World Of Warships doesn't seem to have much to do with Godzilla vs. Kong. The game is an online combat simulator which boasts a considerable fleet of historically accurate battleships that players can choose to take part in high-stakes oceanic warfare. It first released in 2015 as a PC-exclusive experience, but in 2019, a console port, World Of Warships: Legends, was released, expanding the options for fans who wanted to take part in naval combat.

Now these two large-scale confrontations are colliding in a big way, thanks to a collaboration event in World Of Warships and its console counterpart. As revealed in a press release from World Of Warships, each monster will be featured towering onboard their own distinct battleship, themed with unique camouflage patterns to pay homage to the legendary titan standing atop it. Both monsters will also be available as playable commanders. Godzilla fans on PC can take the helm of the Japanese battleship Amagi, while Legends players will be given command of a unique ship named the Heat Ray. Kong supporters, meanwhile, will take control of the USS North Carolina on PC, or the unique Primal battleship in Legends. Consumable camouflage patterns, patches, flags, and more will be offered to players during the promotion, which will begin later in May.

While fans of the films can attest that neither Godzilla or Kong need a fleet of battleships to do their fighting for them, the naval setting and explosive stakes of an average World Of Warships match do lend themselves well to the scale of destruction that these titans are known for. They're also evocative of at least one oceanic fight from the film itself. It may not be the most obvious way to have Godzilla and Kong face off in a video game format, but World Of Warships' crossover event should still give Monsterverse fans a chance to show their true colors and pick a side in the ultimate battle of beasts.

It wasn't too long ago that a movie tying in with a video game was a sure sign of a mediocre game, no matter how successful or beloved the movie itself was. Nowadays, while video games dedicated exclusively to movies are still few and far between, online video games like World Of Warships are not shy about giving their players the chance to relive their favorite films. These range from obvious picks like Godzilla vs. Kong to more surprising crossovers, like vintage action movie star Rambo, who recently appeared as a guest in Mortal Kombat 11. As strange as it may seem to see Godzilla and Kong precariously perched on warships that aren't much larger than they are, fans should still look forward to getting a chance to pick a sides when World Of Warships finally launches its Godzilla vs. Kong crossover.
