After the Godzilla vs. Kong trailer was met with a resoundingly positive response, director Adam Wingard thanks fans with a video compilation of the best reaction videos. Warner Bros. released the screen-shaking official trailer on January 24, amping up fans for the epic battle movie to come in March. WB and Legendary Pictures recently nudged Godzilla vs. Kong's release date back by a week, changing the film's scheduled release date to March 31.
Godzilla vs. Kong is a double-sequel to both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island that will bring the universes together in a crossover. Although franchises based on both monsters have continued for decades since each first appeared on screen, the two iconic beasts of the cinema haven't worked together since the 60s, when they duked it out in King Kong vs. Godzilla. Excitement has been building for Wingard's action blockbuster since the movie was first announced. Last Monday, the much-anticipated trailer lived up to the hype with stunning visual effects, awesome fight sequences, and the promise of a high-stakes showdown. Fans have been sharing their giddy reactions online since the trailer dropped.
Adam Wingard has clearly been keeping up with the internet's positive response. The director celebrated the trailer's success with a reaction compilation video that he shared on Instagram and YouTube today. Wingard included a touching personal message thanking fans for their response to the video in his Instagram post, which you can read in full below:
Watching the Godzilla Vs Kong trailer blow up across the internet has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I can’t thank you all enough for making the launch such a success. When directing a big movie like this it takes years off of your life! Its a long difficult process that sometimes feels like there is no end in sight! Just look at my beard before and after GVK, I barely had any grey hairs and now I look like fucking Santa Clause! BUT NOTHING has rejuvenated me more than being able to watch the excitement to the trailer online in the many fan reaction videos. This is what its all about. I may not be able to enjoy this with ya’ll in a cinema just yet but to see and hear the excitement in these trailer reaction videos has made this long journey worthwhile. The video shows viewers freaking out as they watch Godzilla and Kong throw down for the first time in years. WB's recently released trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong broke the record for the studio's most-watched trailer debut of all time. The trailer reveals a lot about the upcoming movie: Godzilla is positioned as the villain (but it's possible that's a red herring), the titans' battle strengths and weaknesses are on display, and new threats enter the MonsterVerse. More than a couple fans comment that they need to watch the trailer again, and some even shed tears.
As if the hype for this movie wasn't already high enough, fan reactions confirm that the trailer has generated even more anticipation outside of the franchises' usual viewership bases for the upcoming crossover. Wingard went above and beyond to show his appreciation for the response, and the resulting video is a great way to bring fans together in a time of separation. Hopefully, Warner Bros. doesn't have any more surprise delays planned for Godzilla vs. Kong, and viewers can look forward to watching the historic monster fight two months from now.
