Godzilla vs. Kong is stomping into theaters and streaming sooner than expected. The upcoming MonsterVerse bout was subject to a number of delays. It was originally supposed to come out in May 2020, before being moved. Fans have been wanting a trailer, but none have released yet. So far, a toy commercial is the closest to the real thing.

Godzilla and Kong are two of the biggest names in monster pop culture. The creatures traded blows in 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla, battling for dominance in Japan. As the years went on, few could have predicted they would meet again on the big screen. Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse, continuing after 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Sadly, not a whole lot has been revealed. A snippet of footage reveals Kong apparently in chains, and toys could tease the return of the Skullcrawler, along with a new character in the MonsterVerse. One of the biggest things is that the Hollow Earth will play a part in the story. Beyond all that, Legendary has kept things close to the vest. Although a trailer still isn't here, it could be coming soon based on a release date change.

In surprising news, Warner Bros. has moved up Godzilla vs. Kong's release date. Previously set for May 21, 2021, the kaiju showdown will now hit theaters and HBO Max on March 26, 2021. That means the grand showdown is just a little over two months away now.

Godzilla v kong

With delays being expected in the movie industry currently, it's surprising when a notable film moves up. Godzilla vs. Kong's new release is particularly interesting. Last week, Legendary and Warner Bros. were reportedly close to resolving the dispute regarding the film's release. It appears the two companies have come to a favorable agreement.

With the film coming unexpectedly sooner, that means marketing is going to have to commence soon. It's fair to assume a trailer is likely arriving sooner than later now. Hopefully, the companies are able to successfully build momentum in a short amount of time. Interestingly, Godzilla: King of the Monsters received a sizeable marketing campaign, but underwhelmed at the box office. Godzilla vs. Kong should do well on streaming, but the big question is how well it will do in theaters in the current climate. It will also be interesting seeing how well the film does overseas. A fascinating two months is coming up as marketing presumably starts to build for Godzilla vs. Kong.
