Godzilla vs. Kong has officially received its PG-13 rating from the MPA. The upcoming MonsterVerse installment is one of Warner Bros. biggest upcoming pictures. Sadly, no footage has been shown thus far, aside from a brief snippet not meant for the general public.

Unarguably, Godzilla and Kong are the two most famous movie monsters in popular culture. TOHO brought the two creatures together for the first time in 1962. King Kong vs. Godzilla remains one of the most successful Godzilla films ever made, delivering a showdown fans can never forget. Few thought it wound happen again, but the two titans are coming together this year in Godzilla vs. Kong. Legendary Pictures has been building towards this for a little while now. The ending of Godzilla: King of the Monsters teases this rivalry between the two. Details on why they are fighting remain unconfirmed. The context was far different in 1962, where Godzilla was purely antagonistic. In the new continuity, the characters fall on the side of good. Fans are anxiously waiting to see how the battle goes down between Godzilla, and a larger, bearded Kong.

This week, the MPA (via FilmRatings) officially rated Godzilla vs. Kong. The film has received a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of creature violence/destruction and brief language." The other MonsterVerse movies have been rated the same with similar reasoning. Godzilla vs. Kong is going to be a film with probable widespread appeal, so it's not surprising it has been given the rating of its predecessors.

An official rating does not automatically confirm a trailer is imminent. However, with a "massive monster brawl movie" still scheduled for release in five months, it presumably shouldn't be too much longer until the trailer is released. What is confirmed based on the rating, however, is that the MPA was able to view Godzilla vs. Kong in some kind of completed form for it to officially classify its content.

Godzilla vs. Kong is an interesting film to discuss when it comes to reception and financial success. Godzilla: King of the Monsters under-performed at the box office, and received mixed reception from critics. Many fans enjoyed it, but that was not good enough to make it a smash hit. If Godzilla vs. Kong is lauded for its human cast and special effects, it should see bigger numbers than the previous film, and perhaps more than the rest of the MonsterVerse films. The future of the MonsterVerse is uncertain, so fans are hoping Godzilla vs. Kong is a hit.
