Godzilla vs. Kong’s new Mechagodzilla design has been unveiled in a Funko Pop toy reveal, officially confirming the robo-titan coming to the MonsterVerse. Mechagodzilla has been heavily theorized for the upcoming film, and now fans can finally get a proper glimpse at how the new version of the beast may look. Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to release in theaters and on HBO max on March 31.

Mechagodzilla is one of Godzilla’s oldest and most popular adversaries, having appeared in numerous films, video games, and other media. Since the first trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong was released, many have believed that the robo-titan would be featured in the film, mainly because of a curious trailer shot that showed schematics for what seemed to be a pair of robotic legs. It’s still unknown what role Mechagodzilla will play in the new film, but he’s now been officially confirmed, and a peek at his new design has been revealed.

In a recent Twitter post, Funko revealed their tie-in Pop figures for Godzilla vs. Kong, including Mechagodzilla. The post even named the iconic kaiju, introducing it as “the new Mechagodzilla.” Though it’s hard to derive precisely what the movie version will look like based on a toy, the Funko Pop design does give a basic idea of how the MonsterVerse’s Mechagodzilla will be portrayed. The titan looks a bit leaner than past iterations, with a long mechanical tail, robotic claw-like hands, and a new red mouth laser to compete with Godzilla’s signature atomic fire breath.

The official confirmation of Mechagodzilla for Godzilla vs. Kong is particularly intriguing because it means that both it and Mecha-King Ghidorah (recently confirmed in a set visit from Collider) will appear in the film. That could mean that the much-hoped-for two-on-two battle of Godzilla and Kong vs. Mechagodzilla and Mecha-Ghidorah could actually become a reality. Unless Ghidorah's head is simply used to help construct Mechagodzilla, which is also a possibility. Of course, the film's focus will likely remain on the eponymous feud between Godzilla and Kong, which director Adam Wingard has promised will determine a clear winner and loser.

The most likely scenario for Mechagodzilla seems to be as a third-act villain, appearing after the duel between Godzilla and Kong and likely compelling the two titular titans to join forces. Or, it’s even possible that Mechagodzilla could be disguised as Godzilla, as he has been in past Toho films. The secrets of the mecha-titans will be revealed when Godzilla vs. Kong releases on March 31.
