First look footage out of CCXP reveals a look at Godzilla vs Kong. The highly anticipated movie is set to bring together Legendary Pictures' monsters for the first time in their shared universe. The movie is a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. Those two films were released in 2019 and 2017, respectively. Since then, a match up between the two monsters has been teased by Legendary Pictures.

Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry, the film is set to hit theaters May 21, 2021. In a surprising move earlier this week, Warner Bros. announced that all their 2021 films, including Godzilla vs Kong, will be hitting theaters and HBO Max the same day. The film will remain available on the platform for free for a month. On the same day, in the video announcing the move, Warner Bros. revealed the logo for Godzilla vs Kong as well.

Footage screened during CCXP gives a first look at the two monsters. Close ups show them ready to fight, with Godzilla swimming and Kong with what appears to be a chain around his neck. The color palette is again emphasized, with Godzilla drenched in dark blue and Kong against the bright orange sky. The clip is one of the first looks at the monsters as fans await the release of an official trailer. The footage also emphasizes their match, with the clip made to look as if the two monsters are barreling towards each other.

With Kong in chains in the clip, questions surrounding the match up between the two will surely be renewed. Details are scarce about Godzilla vs Kong's plot, but the end of Godzilla and Kong's previous films could hint at the coming developments. The end of Godzilla: King of the Monsters saw the Titans converging on Skull Island, the last location Kong was seen at in his 2017 film. Both films also ended with their respective characters shown in cave paintings depicting the upcoming fights between the monsters. The question remains, though, as to how the two monsters will be brought together and the chains could hint at that.

The chains surely alluded to Kong being captured by some human adversaries, but who exactly that could be remains unclear. It could be part of the conspiracy that is mentioned in the film's official synopsis, one that involves a group of people trying to wipe monsters like Kong and Godzilla from the face of the earth, good or bad. It could also hint at the impending battle between the two. Kong: Skull Island takes place during the Vietnam War, while Godzilla: King of the Monsters lands squarely in the modern day, as will Godzilla vs Kong, presumably. It's possible that Kong is seen as an enemy again and humans could have captured him in an effort to have Godzilla eradicate the monster. Fans won't have to wait long to find out, with the movie set to hit theaters in May and a trailer (hopefully) hitting the internet soon.
