Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard teases big kaiju action in the upcoming MonsterVerse film. Godzilla's bout with Kong has seen plenty of discussion among fans, despite scarce details about the story outside a plot synopsis. This week, the MPA did give the film its official rating, leading fans to hope a trailer is coming sooner than later.

When it comes to giant monster action and destruction, the MonsterVerse is the cinematic universe to see. In Godzilla 2014, San Francisco is leveled by Godzilla's showdown with the MUTOs. In Kong: Skull Island, creatures cause trouble for the human characters before Kong battles the big Skullcrawler. Godzilla: King of the Monsters features the most destruction of any MonsterVerse installment. Rodan completely destroys a Mexican city simply by flying over it. In the climax, Boston is ground zero for Godzilla's showdown with Ghidorah. There's an expectation for giant monster movies to have a satisfying amount of action. Godzilla vs. Kong sounds like it won't disappoint in that department.

Over on Instagram, Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard commented on the MPA's rating for the film. The movie was given a PG-13 in part for "intense sequences of creature violence/destruction." Wingard's comment is simple but arguably very effective. Check out the post below.

This isn't the first time Wingard has talked about Godzilla vs. Kong's big action sequences. In 2017, he said the film was a "massive monster brawl movie," confirming there are other creatures in addition to the title characters. Even those who didn't enjoy Godzilla: King of the Monsters can't deny the impressive special effects. Although Wingard doesn't say Godzilla vs. Kong will have necessarily bigger action than Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it sounds like it will at least be on par based on the comment.

Godzilla vs. Kong may have fantastic action and destruction set pieces, but the film is going to need a strong script as well for the reception to be good. The original King Kong vs. Godzilla managed to combine a compelling script, alongside a lengthy, satisfying bout between the monster combatants. The most esteemed Godzilla movies, such as Mothra vs. Godzilla and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, have an involved human storyline alongside significant destruction. Godzilla vs. Kong is fighting an uphill battle after the mixed reception of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It will be interesting tracking reception as Godzilla vs. Kong stomps closer and closer to its November release date.
