Black Panther’s Danai Gurira is looking to join Godzilla vs Kong. The film marks the fourth installment of Warner Bros/Legendary’s MonsterVerse. This cinematic universe includes 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which hits theaters next May.

Gurira’s breakout role came as the sword-wielding Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman. She first appeared in the show’s third season back in 2012. This year she made a big move into film, starring in two of the highest grossing films of the year. First in Black Panther as Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje, King T’Challa’s elite fighting force, and again in Avengers: Infinity War. As one of the few heroes that survived Thanos’ snap, it’s likely that she will also appear in Avengers 4, but that's not the only blockbuster film that may be on her mind.

Deadline reports Gurira is in early talks for a role in Godzilla vs Kong. While the role she could possibly play is still being kept under wraps, it could be a leading character. This film marks a crossover bringing together these two larger than life monsters established in previous films for a climactic clash. If she closes a deal to star in the film, Gurira will join Stranger Things’s Millie Bobby Brown and Deadpool 2's Julian Dennison, both of whom have already signed on for the project. Death Note filmmaker Adam Wingard will be directing.

If cast, Gurira will be moving from one movie universe to another, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the MonsterVerse. She's also reportedly looking at a role in Star Trek 4, the next installment in the rebooted series launched by J.J. Abrams. S.J. Clarkson became the first woman to helm a film in the franchise when she was chosen as director. Gurira will continue her role as Michonne on The Walking Dead when the show returns for season 9 this fall, and it’s possible that her role may increase in the wake of Andrew Lincoln's departure.

Gurira is no stranger to action with plenty of experience gained during her long tenure at The Walking Dead and most recently in Black Panther. She handles these scenes will an ease that will make her an asset on Godzilla vs Kong. While the actual plot of the film is still unknown, it will undoubtedly call for action set pieces. Gurira can also utilize her experience working with heavy special effects. More than just an action star, Gurira also excels at the dramatic scenes. Godzilla vs Kong may provide an opportunity to stretch her acting skills, as this will be another big franchise to add to her growing resume.
