Through Apple TV+’s Godzilla show, the MonsterVerse has a chance to introduce its fourth MUTO. So far, three members of the MUTO species have made live-action appearances, though only one is currently alive. However, there is a fourth unseen MUTO that the movies haven’t used or referenced yet.

The MonsterVerse is brimming with Titans that haven’t appeared on screen yet. 11 of these creatures had their names revealed on monitor screens in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Apparently, Monarch discovered a whopping number of Titans between the events of the 2014 movie and its sequel. The synopsis for Apple TV+’s upcoming Godzilla show reveals that the MonsterVerse series will be set within that timeframe. It’ll deal directly with the fallout from Godzilla’s fight with the two MUTOs in San Francisco and how humanity copes with the existence of the Titans. Going back this far in time will unfortunately limit the show’s use of new Titans, as it can only utilize creatures that Monarch had already uncovered before King of the Monsters.

Interestingly, the limitations set by where the show fits into the timeline won’t stop Apple TV+'s Godzilla show from adding a fourth MUTO. In fact, when it takes place makes it the perfect opportunity for such a creature to appear. Godzilla: Aftershock, a Godzilla: King of the Monsters prequel graphic novel, centered on the rise of MUTO Prime, who emerged as a threat a few months after the 2014 movie. Shown to be much larger than the two that menaced the planet in the first movie, MUTO Prime was confirmed to be the creature that slew the Godzilla ancestor whose body was found in the Philippines. Also referred to as Titanus Jinshin-Mushi, the fearsome monster earned the title of “Earthquake Beetle” through its appearance and destructive behavior in the MonsterVerse’s ancient history.

Godzilla Aftershock MUTO Prime

Described as another ancient rival to Godzilla, MUTO Prime attacked a Russian submarine and managed to survive an encounter with Godzilla. It was finally killed in a brutal rematch at the end of the comic. Since the comic is considered MonsterVerse canon, its events could be acknowledged in Apple TV+’s show. The series could even do their own take on Monarch’s experience with MUTO Prime since there’s a good chance that the series and Godzilla: Aftershock share the same place in the MonsterVerse timeline. If they do, Apple TV+’s show can unveil MUTO Prime and challenge Monarch to deal with her. And since Godzilla beat her in the comic, he could join the fight as well.

MUTO Prime’s sonic roar and ability to create earthquakes made her a formidable foe for Godzilla in the Aftershock comic. These impressive powers, combined with her beetle-inspired design, would enable the MonsterVerse to present her as a distinctly different creature from the other three MUTOs. Due to their many differences and her power level in the MonsterVerse, the villain could make for an interesting antagonist for Monarch, Godzilla, and possibly other Titans in Apple TV+’s Godzilla show.
