A Godzilla vs. Kong prequel graphic novel reveals that Gojira and one of the original Titans from Godzilla: King of the Monsters got into a fight during the five-year time jump. The four central Titans in King of the Monsters were of course Godzilla himself, Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah, but they weren’t the only giant creatures featured in the story. Since purchasing the rights to more Toho kaiju like Anguirus would present budget issues, King of the Monsters created four new Titans for Legendary’s MonsterVerse, one of which was a new MUTO.

The other three were Scylla, Methuselah, and Behemoth, all of which being monsters with mythological or Biblical connections. They initially served Ghidorah, but they shifted their allegiance to Godzilla by the end of the movie. That said, despite becoming his minions, none of them were on hand for his fight with APEX or the King of Skull Island in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Godzilla: Dominion, a graphic novel set three years before Godzilla vs. Kong, reveals that Scylla’s post-King of the Monsters activities attracted the attention of the alpha. It was shown that Scylla attacked a naval vessel near the coast of Georgia to absorb the radiation of a nuclear bomb. That’s when Godzilla intervened and tried to stop her from causing trouble. Apparently, Scylla’s hunger for radiation caused her to disobey him. Since she wouldn’t yield without a fight, Godzilla was forced to battle her in the ocean. She used the tendrils from her mouth to restrain Godzilla, but she lacked the physical might to hold her own against him in combat for very long. Her slender legs and size difference to her opponent also put her at a huge disadvantage.

After a short fight, Scylla retreated by swimming away at a great speed. Godzilla gave up the chase, realizing she had likely learned her lesson about challenging him. However, she wasn’t the only Titan he had to put in their place between the events of King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. After beating Scylla, Godzilla had to take down Tiamat and Amhuluk, two of the unseen Titans whose names were spotted on a monitor screen in King of the Monsters. As for why he had to fight these creatures, Dominion explained Ghidorah waking up so many Titans at once had consequences for the Earth. So many giant monsters sharing a planet with limited resources made it difficult for Godzilla to keep them in all line, and the situation with Scylla was certainly indicative of that. For this reason, Godzilla eventually sent them all – including Scylla – back into hibernation.

It was unfortunate that audiences who enjoyed King of the Monsters’ new Titans didn’t get to see them again, but Godzilla having minions around in Godzilla vs. Kong would have made for a lopsided fight with his rival. Even so, as long as the MonsterVerse continues, there may be opportunities for them to show up in the future. In the case of Scylla in particular, it would be in her best interest not to antagonize the alpha a second time.
