A TikTok shows a Godzilla fan turning a single grain of rice into a detailed sculpture. The original Gojira was released in Japan in 1954. Since then, the giant kaiju has become one of the most iconic movie monsters, appearing in almost 40 films in the last 67 years. Toho released a new Godzilla movie every few years from 1954 to the early 2000s, with their last film, Shin Godzilla, coming out in 2016.

The first American-produced Godzilla movie released in 1998 starring Matthew Broderick was critically panned upon release. Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla in 2014 faired a bit better and helped launch Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise. While Godzilla has always been a pop culture icon, the giant monster got a new wave of popularity with the release of Godzilla vs. Kong. The film was scheduled to release in 2020, but after numerous delays and much fan anticipation, Godzilla vs. Kong was released in March 2021.

While Godzilla vs. Kong was a massive crossover event, a TikTok from jewelry.lili shows a creation on a much smaller scale. Fan art of Godzilla will always be around, but the future of the MonsterVerse is currently unknown. Godzilla vs. Kong ended with Godzilla being deemed the champion and teaming with King Kong to defeat MechaGodzilla. With the conflict between the two monsters seemingly resolved, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 seems unlikely, yet there is still plenty of stories to tell with each character. Godzilla specifically has faced off against dozens of giant kaiju in the last 67 years, most of which have yet to make a return to the big screen. The end of Godzilla vs. Kong made Hollow Earth Kong’s new home, which could also lead into a Kong: Skull Island sequel.

Legendary Entertainment’s CEO says that they have more ideas for MonsterVerse movies. Godzilla vs. Kong’s writer Max Borenstein also teased that future MonsterVerse installments are being developed, but nothing is officially happening just yet. The MonsterVerse movies have been popular with audiences, evident by box office numbers and the numerous pieces of fan art created before and after Godzilla vs. Kong’s release. While it’s anybody’s guess what Legendary or Toho are planning for Godzilla, videos like the one above make it clear that fans will always be passionate about the character.
