The MonsterVerse's new Apple show could finally bring back 2014's Godzilla characters played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. The 2014 movie kicked off a shared universe for Legendary built around Toho's classic monsters. After four movies centered around Godzilla and King Kong, Apple TV+ is developing a new Godzilla series set in the MonsterVerse continuity. Thanks to a new approach to the timeline, the show could be a chance for the franchise's original characters to return.

There are not a lot of details known about Apple's Godzilla TV show, but it confirmed that it takes place after the 2014 movie directed by Gareth Edwards. The synopsis details a story set after Godzilla fought Titans in San Francisco, which led to the public discovering that monsters do exist. This is exactly what happened at the end of Godzilla, although the movie's story revolved around the Brody family. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen received the biggest human roles as a result, with the finale built around Taylor-John's Ford Brody trying to get home to his wife, Olsen's Elle, after Cranston's Joseph Brody died. Despite Ford and Elle having a happy reunion in Godzilla's ending, they didn't return for Godzilla: King of the Monsters or any other MonsterVerse films.

Apple's Godzilla show cast could include Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen's characters, though. The time period is perfect to continue their stories, and the show's synopsis even paves the way for them to be the central characters once more. The MonsterVerse show follows a family that uncovers their secret past and connection to Monarch. It would be quite easy for the Brody family to fit that description. Ford's mom died in an event that Monarch helped cover-up, which also drove his father a bit crazy. Ford and Elle could learn that his parents worked for a company with ties to Monarch and look for more information on the MonsterVerse organization's history, leading to some big discoveries. It is also possible that Elle's family, who weren't featured in 2014's Godzilla could be connected to Monarch's past in some fashion.

Elizabeth Olsen And Aaron Taylor Johnson In Godzilla

The MonsterVerse Godzilla show doesn't even have to star the Brody family in order to bring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen's characters back. The series will more than likely revolve around a new family that is introduced specifically for the show. However, they could cross paths with Ford and Elle Brody at some point. If the new family is also based out of San Francisco, then they could run into the Brodys before, during, or after Godzilla's big fight.

No matter which of these paths Apple's MonsterVerse series goes, it would be a missed opportunity not to bring back Godzilla's main characters. Their absence from the sequels and where their stories were left off makes it unlikely they'd be in any future movies. But, Aaron Taylor-Johnson's and Elizabeth Olsen's Godzilla returns to star or cameo in the MonsterVerse TV show fit perfectly. It is an ideal match for the timeline, a chance to explore what happened to the characters after Godzilla, and an opportunity to get two major franchise stars involved in the project.
