It could be revealed in Godzilla vs. Kong that Skull Island is much more than just the home of Kong and the Skullcrawlers – it could also be the original home of all the Titans. The truth could home out when Monarch begins its investigation into the Titans’ history, which is known to be a major plotline in the upcoming movie.

The previous MonsterVerse installment, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, shed some light on where fit the Titans fit into ancient history when the main characters had to send a vessel into the Hollow Earth tunnel to look for a wounded Godzilla. While there, they stumbled upon the ruins of an ancient underwater civilization that worshiped Godzilla and the Titans as gods. The Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits answered more questions about the Titans’ past by explaining that humans and Titans went to war with each other thousands of years ago in a battle that didn’t end well for humanity. It’s been confirmed through the Godzilla vs. Kong synopsis that the next movie will go back even further by looking at where the Titans came from.

One of the reveals from the newspapers in the King of the Monsters credits hinted at this investigation with the line, “Monster hunters seek origins of Titans beneath Skull Island”. That explains how Kong will factor into the story, but one mystery that lingers is why Monarch has decided to look for answers in Skull Island of all places. After all, it isn’t the only known Hollow Earth entry point. It’s possible that the area is important because it’s where the Titans came from several millennia ago. That could also make sense of why the Titans are all headed to Skull Island. To put it simply, they’re going home.

Both humans and Titans seem to be aware of the significance of this mysterious island, since both are converging on it at once. With so many Titans making their way to Kong’s home, there’s a possibility that Godzilla vs. Kong is about to make Skull Island the MonsterVerse’s take on Monster Island from the Toho movies, but instead audiences may discover that it already was Monster Island. Currently, this place is the home of various giant beasts but only one Titan. However, a large number of Titans may have occupied both the surface of the island and the Hollow Earth beneath it at one point in time. If that were true, then that could be the reason why Godzilla had an encounter with one of Kong’s ancestors.

Supposing that the Titans did originate from one place, there would have to be explanation for why they drifted apart over time. It could be that they became separated as result of the human-Titan war. It was said that humans were left scattered, so it seems plausible that it had a similar impact on the Titans. That being said, Godzilla vs. Kong could reveal that not all of Skull Island’s Titans have gone far from their home. Godzilla toy leaks have spoiled the possible inclusion of a new MonsterVerse Titan called Nozuki. He – and possibly others – may have been lurking beneath Skull Island all this time.
