Kong will have a new weapon in the MonsterVerse, and it could be the key to beating the King of the Monsters in Godzilla vs. Kong. The weapon was spoiled by a recent toy leak, which revealed images of new Godzilla vs. Kong action figures. Of course, the biggest news to come out of this leak is the reveal of a new MonsterVerse Titan named Nozuki, but there are other, smaller details that are noteworthy as well.

Directed by Adam Wingard, Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse and the second movie in movie history to see Godzilla and Kong clash on the big screen. The movie had a release date of March 2020, but due to Godzilla: King of the Monsters' lack of success, it was pushed back to November. For this reason, a trailer still hasn't been released. So far, the most notable information about Godzilla vs. Kong has come from leaks, rather than official sources. A previous toy leak spoiled that Godzilla and Kong would cross paths with Toho villain and Godzilla's robotic duplicate, Mechagodzilla. Also shown in this leak was Kong holding a weapon that looked like it may have been a club, but it was difficult to tell for sure. This new leak, however, has offered a much closer look at the Kong action figure.

Packaged with the Kong toy is an axe. Though it's not necessarily true that all the action figures from the Godzilla vs. Kong toyline have to come directly from something that occurs in the film, this one in particular does appear to originate from something that could factor heavily into Kong's fight with Godzilla. It could be that at some point in the movie, Kong will use his intelligence to fashion an axe together using a large, sharp stone and an unusually large tree. A weapon like this would surely come in handy against Godzilla, and its inclusion can explain how Kong will approach his battle with Godzilla.

Godzilla May Be Physically Superior To Kong

King Kong vs Godzilla 1963 final clash

Though Kong is getting a massive size upgrade just in time for Godzilla vs. Kong, this doesn't change the fact that the King of Skull Island will still be perceived as the underdog, just as he was in Toho's 1962 movie, King Kong vs. Godzilla. To beat Godzilla, this weapon may be necessary to gaining an edge over him. Typically, Godzilla is physically superior to his foes. Usually, when a monster starts to beat Godzilla, it's because of a new gimmick that Godzilla has yet to adjust to, a team-up, or a powerful ranged attack of some sort. Being able to win up close has always been Godzilla's greatest strength.

There are numerous examples of Godzilla's physical superiority. When unable to make use of his arsenal of laser cannons and missiles, Mechagodzilla is normally no match for him. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla had Ghidorah - one of the most powerful Titans in the MonsterVerse - on the ground within seconds of their first collision in Antarctica. As for Kong, he struggled with holding his own against Godzilla's punches in King Kong vs. Godzilla until his electrical powers - which his MonsterVerse counterpart doesn't have - kicked in and provided him with a much-needed advantage. What all this means for Godzilla vs. Kong is that Godzilla will enter the movie a heavy favorite. That doesn't mean Kong will lose, but the odds won't be in his favor, given Godzilla's raw power.

Sharp Weapons Are A Weakness For Godzilla

Godzilla's physical superiority extends to nearly all of his battles, but one foe in particular gave Godzilla a considerable amount of trouble in close combat: Gigan. In Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla took a beating from Gigan, an alien cyborg with hook-like blades for hands. Gigan, who became the first monster to make Godzilla bleed, viciously hit Godzilla with cut after cut, turning Godzilla into a bloody mess. Godzilla nearly died in that fight.

Does this weakness of Godzilla's transfer over to the MonsterVerse? The 2014 Godzilla movie suggests that it does. While working together, the two M.U.T.O.s were able to do serious harm to Godzilla by attacking him with their clawed limbs. They seemed to have much success when it came to cutting through Godzilla's skin. Godzilla reeled in agony a few times during his battle with the M.U.T.O.s. Their relentless assault put Godzilla on the defensive and put him at an extreme disadvantage. Most of the difficulties Godzilla experienced in this fight stemmed from their ability to cut and pierce him with their claws.

How Kong's Axe Can Be Used To Beat Godzilla

Fans have speculated that Kong may use the axe to break off the spikes on Godzilla's back. This would be a unique - and painful - way to attack Godzilla, and it's hard to say how effective this strategy would be. Regardless, the axe could be used against Godzilla in a more direct way. If its sharp enough, it can be used to cut deep into Godzilla's body. Gigan shows that bladed weapons represent a weakness for Godzilla that could be exploited in Godzilla vs. Kong. A weapon like the one that Kong is expected to wield in Godzilla vs. Kong may be his best chance at dealing a considerable amount damage to Godzilla. Depending on its sharpness, Kong may be able to weaken Godzilla by driving it into his torso. Such a wound would slow down Godzilla significantly. If Kong's axe can penetrate through Godzilla's tough exterior, his chances of beating Godzilla and becoming the new King of the Monsters will greatly improve.

Having this advantage will be crucial, as Kong will need a powerful weapon in his arsenal in order for him to have a proper defense against Godzilla's atomic breath. In King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla's atomic breath badly wounded Kong and burnt his fur. This was a big problem for Kong, because it meant Godzilla had the edge in close combat and at a distance. The problem won't go away in the MonsterVerse, as Godzilla will surely utilize his atomic breath against Kong in the upcoming movie. This can force Kong to narrow the distance between them, but that won't do him much good if Godzilla is stronger and more powerful than him. Kong has agility on his side, but that may not be enough. If he's going to get close to Godzilla and stop him from blasting him with his atomic breath, he'll need a weapon like the stone axe to match Godzilla physically. With it, he can pose a huge threat to Godzilla's current reign as the King of the Monsters in Godzilla vs. Kong.
