Godzilla vs. Kong will dive deeper into the science and history behind the MonsterVerse’s titans, according to Millie Bobby Brown. Legendary’s cinematic kaiju franchise has centered around the eponymous monsters since it began, and details about the nature of the titans has slowly leaked out piece by piece through the films. Fans will get a closer look at the titans in Godzilla vs. Kong, which releases in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.

In establishing its own kaiju canon separate from past Godzilla and King Kong films, the MonsterVerse created the titans – a broad term used to describe any of the various ancient, massive beasts awoken from the Hollow Earth. This backstory has helped streamline the MonsterVerse plot by giving all titans a common connection and origin point, which is different from the model used in Toho’s films. The specific history of the titans and how they work are key pieces to the overall story, but those details have mostly been doled out in fragments.

Godzilla vs. Kong will give a closer look at the science behind the titans, according to star Millie Bobby Brown. In a recent interview with Collider, Brown, who will reprise her Godzilla: King of the Monsters role in the new film, opened up about her new character arc and the broader story. When asked about how Godzilla vs. Kong builds on her character’s relationship with Godzilla himself, Brown said that her arc is largely one of learning about the titans and how they work.

“I mean, the first movie King of the Monsters, her relationship with Godzilla was pretty distant. It was only really like what talks about him. And she was, I'm sure, very curious. There are moments in King of the Monsters, where she gets to have amazing scenes with him, but definitely this movie, Godzilla versus King Kong, it's much more about the technical side of it, learning more about his, the data of him as a Titan. It's much more technical and she's becoming more knowledgeable of him.”

Godzilla vs kong acient titan war

So far, Godzilla looks like the villain of Godzilla vs. Kong, as the trailer shows him embarking on a sudden violent rampage across the Earth. Brown’s character, Madison Russell, is one of several humans who believe there’s an unseen force behind Godzilla’s outrage. The mysterious Apex cybernetics group, which was recently confirmed to be building a Mecha-King Ghidorah in the film, could be involved.

Godzilla vs. Kong has already introduced new lore in the form an ancient MonsterVerse titan war, which sets the stage for Godzilla and Kong’s modern-day battle. The Hollow Earth will be explored more in the new film, and new titans will be added to the roster, making it the perfect time to shed a bit more light on how the franchise’s kaiju work and interact with one another. More secrets of the titans and their world will be revealed when Godzilla vs. Kong releases in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
