Mechagodzilla could go after the MonsterVerse’s original Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong. Godzilla and Kong will be engaged in a heated showdown in the upcoming movie, but Legendary hasn’t released any details on what it will do with the other Titans in the MonsterVerse.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters established the existence of numerous new Titans. Aside from Godzilla, Kong, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra, all the other known Titans are original to the MonsterVerse. Prior to Ghidorah’s return, Monarch was aware of over a dozen of them, and had outposts at their respective locations. When Ghidorah let out a call, the monsters awoke all at once and emerged from their resting places. Four of these Titans – Scylla, Behemoth, Methuselah, and a third MUTO – were seen answering the new alpha’s call. At the end of the movie, Rodan and the four Titans found a new master in Godzilla, who killed the three-headed monster with his nuclear pulse attack.

There are aren’t the only Titans that Godzilla now controls. A monitor screen in the movie revealed the names of 11 Titans who have so far gone unseen. These mysterious Titans, who are all based on mythological gods and monsters, include Yamata no Orochi, Bunyip, Abaddon, Mokele-Mbembe, Sekhmet, Leviathan, Quetzalcoatl, Baphomet, Typhon, Amhuluk, and Tiamat. Some had their appearances elaborated on by the King of the Monsters novelization, but for the most part, their trues natures are still unknown. However, more could be learned about the MonsterVerse’s original Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong. If they return, here’s what their role in the movie could be.

What The Titans Are Doing After King of the Monsters

Godzilla faces off against a third MUTO in Godzilla King of the Monsters

The Godzilla: King of the Monsters shed some light on the Titans’ activities following Ghidorah’s defeat. Apparently, Godzilla is doing a good job of keeping them in line. The Titans are laying low and not causing any unnecessary destruction. That’s good, because the Titans all being awake could have been disastrous for the planet, but fortunately Godzilla is keeping them in check and avoiding any problems. That makes sense, considering that the MonsterVerse’s Godzilla has always been about preserving the balance of nature.

Many of the Titans have returned to their natural environments and have gone back into hibernation. Rodan, for example, has found a new volcano to roost in. Some Titans, on the other hand, are being drawn toward Skull Island. What’s not clear though, is which Titans are headed there or why. The reason could have something to do with it containing one of the entry points into the Hollow Earth. Godzilla, who seems to have a way of knowing when something’s about to go wrong, could have sent his new minions to check out a possible disturbance. Or, the explanation could be that the tunnels under Skull Island lead to the Titans’ original home.

Godzilla vs. Kong’s Human Villains Want To Kill The Titans

What will become of the Titans in Godzilla vs. Kong? The movie’s official synopsis provides a rather ominous clue with the line, “a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.” What this means is that the movie’s human villains – whoever they are – have a goal that’s completely different to what Jonah (Charles Dance) and Emma (Vera Farmiga) were trying to accomplish in King of the Monsters. The eco-terrorists wanted to unleash the Titans, whereas Godzilla vs. Kong’s villains are clearly more interested in simply killing the Titans.

Of course, killing a Titan won’t be an easy task, even if their target is a monster like Behemoth, who isn’t built to be a predator. To pull this off, they’ll naturally need a ton of firepower. But even if they could succeed in killing one, it’s hard to imagine them being able to eradicate all the Titans. To achieve something like this, they’ll need an incredibly powerful weapon. This could be where Godzilla’s robotic counterpart, Mechagodzilla, comes into play.

Mechagodzilla Could Be The Key To Killing The Titans

Mechagodzilla

The King of the Monsters credits mentioned that Monarch built a “mechanized giant” on Skull Island. The implication of this line is that Monarch controls Mechagodzilla, but that may not be true for long. Similar to what happened at the beginning of King of the Monsters, the human villains in Godzilla vs. Kong could stage a coup on Monarch’s Skull Island outpost and hijack Mechagodzilla. Once his arsenal of weapons is at their disposal, they can do as they please with him and set their sights on the MonsterVerse’s Titans. Since some Titans will be in the vicinity of Skull Island, Mechagodzilla may not have far to go to begin his mission. A brutal fight with Mechagodzilla on Skull Island could lead to the deaths of Scylla, Behemoth, the third MUTO, and more. Even Rodan could fall to him, just like he did in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Another purpose served by having the the Titans lose to Mechagodzilla is that it will prevent a situation where Godzilla has too many allies in the movie's final battle.

Mechagodzilla would be hard-pressed to beat any more than two at the same time, but it could be that he’ll hunt down Titans who are traveling solo. One by one, Mechagodzilla could eliminate the creatures. He could even take the fight to the Hollow Earth. A different synopsis has stated that a monster war will happen on the surface and “deep within our world.” If that’s the case, Mechagodzilla could head into the tunnels and kill the Titans who are either hibernating or trying to stay out of the fight. This seems to be a likely move, because only through using the Hollow Earth tunnels can the villains hope to get rid of all the Titans. Most aren’t on the surface, so making the Titans go extinct would be impossible otherwise.

The Deaths of The Titans Can Lead To A Godzilla-Kong Team-Up

Godzilla vs. Kong has been delayed to May 21, 2020

The dwindling numbers of the Titans due to Mechagodzilla’s killing spree could provide a huge turning point in the movie. Since Godzilla is their alpha, he’ll be inclined to respond with force when he discovers that his minions are being killed off. As a Titan himself and an incredibly intelligent lifeform, Kong may also recognize the threat that Mechagodzilla poses to the world. The deaths of some of the Titans could make Godzilla and Kong realize that their real enemy isn’t each other, but Mechagodzilla. The two could put their personal conflict aside and form a temporary alliance against the robotic villain. After teaming up in Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla and Kong can stop Mechagodzilla from killing any more of their fellow Titans.
