A player-created a custom Dungeons and Dragons 5e guidebook features Godzilla and King Kong among other kaiju beasts. The latest movie in the Warner Bros./Legendary MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong, released in theaters and on HBO Max. Godzilla vs. Kong has mostly positive reviews with an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Critics have praised the movie for delivering on the promise of monster-on-monster action, which more than makes up for the lack of development of its human characters. Screen Rant’s own review by Mae Abdulbaki says that the film “entertain[s] on many levels, offering enticing clashes between Godzilla and Kong that work on a massive scale, as well as intriguing monster lore that aids in exploring a bit more of the titular characters’ background.”

Godzilla vs. Kong has been highly anticipated by fans of the MonsterVerse. Over 10,000 private viewing parties were booked across theaters in the United States leading up to the release of the film, which was surely a boost to the struggling industry. The MonsterVerse’s fourth entry debuted at a $70 million box office in China alone and is currently the highest-grossing movie internationally since the start COVID-19 pandemic.

“Primerva’s Guide to Kaijuborn,” a custom Dungeons and Dragons 5e guidebook, was uploaded to Imgur by user Primerva to celebrate the release of Godzilla vs. Kong. The guidebook features a new race for Dungeons and Dragons players to choose from when creating a character: kaijuborn. Several monsters, each with traits and abilities, are present in the guidebook such as Godzilla (as well as its mecha and space forms), Kong, and Mothra. The book continues with three subclasses, Eldritch invocations, and feats for players to choose from in their sandbox games.

Kaiju DND 2

Primerva’s guidebook looks like it belongs in an official Dungeons and Dragons manual. Its images (which are mostly taken from Deviant Art), fonts, and page layout all follow the Dungeons and Dragons style guide. Primerva’s guidebook was a collaboration with friends, who helped the user develop and brainstorm for the manual. Primerva is also creating a homebrew campaign setting called Worldspire and links out to a Patreon page in the book.

One of the best parts about Dungeons and Dragons is homebrew content. Being able to customize campaigns by introducing new classes, races, and spells keeps things fresh by adding variety to the game. As Primerva states towards the beginning of the guidebook, kaiju fit right in Dungeons and Dragons as the majority of the enemies in the game are already monsters. Smashing through campaigns as Godzilla and Kong is a great way to celebrate to release of the MonsterVerse’s newest movie.
