Rodan flies in a new viral video for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The MonsterVerse is set to grow in a big way early next year with Mike Dougherty's sequel to 2014's Godzilla. The titular main monster will eat up much of the screen time, but the sequel is also set to introduce several other new creatures to the world.

As the title suggests, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is going to attempt to prove how Godzilla got this name, which may be needed before he battles Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020. In order to do so, the sequel is introducing a trio of iconic Toho monsters. Ghidorah, a three-headed dragon, is being positioned to be the main adversary of the Godzilla in this film. Mothra, a giant moth, is also set to appear and is typically aligned with humans. The final monster confirmed to appear is Rodan, a huge flying bird-like kaiju, who is the star of the newest King of the Monsters video.

Beyond the standard marketing tactics employed by most films, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is making the most of its viral campaign. The latest video to come from Monarch (the top secret, monster-focused government agency in the MonsterVerse) gives a new fiery look at Rodan. The quick teaser shows the creature flying low above the rooftops of a city.

In the video, Rodan can be seen with fire coming off the back of its wings and tail. For the purposes of the MonsterVerse, Rodan has been linked heavily to volcanoes and videos like these may be part of the reason there's a legend of Rodan being a fire demon. It is not currently clear if the fire coming off of Rodan is the result of him just recently coming out of the Isla de Mona volcano he inhabits, or if this will be a permanent effect for the creature. The safer bet is on the former, although the latter would certainly create a unique visual take on the King of the Skies.

This video may just be four seconds long, but the continued activity and teases by Monarch (both on Twitter and on their website) is all building towards the launch of the new King of the Monsters trailer this weekend. After the first Godzilla 2 trailer only offered small teases of Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah, the new trailer could show better looks at the other Titans and much more of them in action. After all, the monster on monster action is what many really want to see from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, so it would be best to finally show some of it.
