The credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters drop an important tease for the future of the MonsterVerse with the mention of a "mechanized giant" on Skull Island. While Legendary's Godzilla has only battled ancient Titans, Toho's Godzilla has a history of fighting man-made opponents.

The aftermath of Godzilla's final showdown with King Ghidorah is explored in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Newspaper clippings and online articles drop various tidbits about what happens now that Godzilla has been accepted by Rodan and the others as the new alpha. The credits make it clear that Emma and Jonah's plan had a positive impact on the environment, just as they said it would. While the planet recovers, Godzilla is apparently keeping the other Titans in check, who have now returned to their natural habitats. Of course, the biggest reveals are centered around Kong, who is shown fighting Godzilla in a cave painting. It's also been said that new Titans are on their way to Skull Island.

While these headlines about Kong and Skull Island have taken the bulk of the attention, it's the text from one particular article that contains one of the credits' most interesting implications for the future. In the article titled "Monarch Boosts Forces Around Skull Island", one line stands out: "De La Rosa went on to claim that Monarch was not only developing this mechanizing giant on Skull Island, but had already tried to create organic Titans in the past, and they are the cause of several recent Titan incidents". While everything said here is worth noting, the remark about Monarch building a "mechanized giant" is especially important.

Godzilla Kong Skull Island

Why would Monarch want to build such a thing? It's possible that before Monarch viewed Godzilla as an ally, they believed that the Earth needed to protect itself, and that it couldn't depend on any Titan to help out. These plans may have since been abandoned. Alternatively, Monarch could have come to the conclusion that Godzilla could need help if multiple Titans banded together to attack civilization.

It's hard to say how significant these plans may be to the future of the MonsterVerse. One possibility is that the phrase "mechanized giant" was meant to be seen simply as an Easter egg to one of Godzilla's greatest enemies, Mechagodzilla. If so, it may never be referenced again. On the other hand, this tease could be just one more way that the credits are setting up Godzilla vs. Kong. It could turn out that Kong may not be the only threat to Godzilla on Skull Island.
