Mokele-Mbembe briefly appeared in one shot in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but the smoke hiding his body prevented him from being clearly identified. Mokele-Mbembe is one of several MonsterVerse Titans confirmed to exist in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) mentions in Godzilla: King of the Monsters that Monarch is aware of at least 17 Titans. These giant monsters are spread out across all seven continents. Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan, Mothra, and Kong all hail from movie franchises outside Legendary's MonsterVerse, but all the others made their debuts in the movie. They're all named after mythological gods, goddesses, monsters, Biblical beasts, and more. Among those who are seen on the big screen are Scylla, Behemoth, the third M.U.T.O., and Methuselah. The others had their names and locations revealed on a monitor, but were never shown in the flesh.
One exception to this was Mokele-Mbembe, who popped up on a monitor screen when Titans like Scylla were responding to Ghidorah's call, but with too much smoke to see what he looked like. Fortunately, the Godzilla: King of the Monsters novelization makes his appearance less of a mystery by offering a remarkably thorough description. Mokele-Mbembe is described as an "earless elephant" with "five-clawed forelimbs" and a long, curved horn on his head. He has tusks that are turned down, a mouth like a crocodile with "thousands of teeth", an extremely long (and destructive) tail, and a trunk he can use as a whip-like weapon. A scene in the book covers the moment where Mokele-Mbembe wakes up. With his tail and trunk, Mokele-Mbembe is easily able to break away from captivity, and Monarch is helpless to stop him. The damage he causes when he escapes shows that Mokele-Mbembe is just as fearsome as he sounds.
Mokele-Mbembe was being monitored at Monarch Outpost 75 in Sudan prior to his escape. He shares his name with a creature who supposedly lived in the Congo. Similar to the Loch Ness Monster, Mokele-Mbembe was believed to exist by locals, who claimed to have seen him in the early 20th century. Based on these alleged sightings, Mokele-Mbembe was a dinosaur who resembled a brontosaurus. No evidence was ever found for his existence, but he remains a popular folklore legend in the Congo.
Like Leviathan, Mokele-Mbembe is one of the only missing Titans that the novelization touches upon. Most of them, such as Baphomet and Amhuluk, are only named in the movie and aren't discussed elsewhere. Thanks to the novelization, Mokele-Mbembe stands out from the rest as a Titan whom fans have enough information about to create a clear picture of what he looks like.
