An ominous hidden message in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters may have teased a powerful new villain for Godzilla to fight in the MonsterVerse's future. Godzilla is already expected to be engaged in epic showdowns with the King of Skull Island, Kong, and his robotic counterpart, Mechagodzilla, in Godzilla vs. Kong, but these may not be the only challengers Godzilla will be facing.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters confirmed the existence of numerous Titans dwelling somewhere in Legendary's MonsterVerse. While a handful of these are established monsters from existing franchises, the rest are original to the MonsterVerse. The movie introduces audiences to four new Titans — Scylla, Behemoth, Methuselah, and a third M.U.T.O. — and reveals the names and locations of several others, including Tiamat, Yamata no Orochi, Leviathan, and nine more. However, these are just the Titans known to exist in the MonsterVerse. There could be even more that weren't mentioned or referenced in King of the Monsters.

The credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters used newspaper clippings to reveal various tidbits about the aftermath of Godzilla's climactic battle with King Ghidorah. The credits are also littered with fun Easter eggs and references that point to Godzilla's highly anticipated clash with Kong, Monarch's mission in Godzilla vs. Kong, and the creation of Mechagodzilla. The credits' Mechagodzilla tease was hard to spot, but an even more carefully concealed message in the credits may hint at the introduction of an all-new MonsterVerse villain.

While trying to catch all the details in the newspaper clippings and headlines from the credits, one may miss out on a whole other set of reveals: the credits are filled with lines of redacted text, and if viewed carefully, this redacted text can actually be read right before the words are covered up. Interestingly, the redacted text tells a story about a war between the humans and Titans, and goes into great detail about the relationship between them. Just as Monarch deduced while in Godzilla's underwater city, the clippings reveal that humans and Titans were friendly with one another until humans tried to control the Titans and use them as weapons of war. Conflict erupted, and civilizations fell as a result. That's why the Titans were forgotten for so long.

At the end of the story, the redacted text cryptically mentions "ancient rivalries lurking." Immediately afterward, the credits provides the coordinates "37.218705, 38.855563," followed by the lines: "But how long will it take for the fires to awaken and send our own civilization into collapse." The way the coordinates are thrown into the middle of it all could suggest that these mysterious teases are connected in some way. As to what the coordinates could mean, they could point to the location of an undiscovered Titan who either didn't hear Ghidorah's call, or chose not to respond to it.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters' Mystery Titan Could Be A Scorpion

The coordinates in the credits point to Gobleki Tepe in Turkey, which isn't the location of any of the known MonsterVerse Titans. A map on a monitor screen in King of the Monsters detailed the locations of Monarch's outposts, and it didn't have a single one in Turkey. So whatever the MonsterVerse is teasing, it has nothing to do with any of the known Titans. So is Gobleki Tepe the secret hiding place of a Titan Monarch knows nothing about? That does seem possible, and Gobleki Tepe itself may hold the clues to understanding the nature of this mystery Titan.

Gobleki Tepe is an incredibly important archaeological site, as many historians accept it to be the oldest temple in the world. Built over 12,000 years ago, the temple walls contain images of scorpions. Dougherty seemed to acknowledge the connection to Gobleki Tepe on Twitter, but revealed nothing further. The scorpions on the temple walls could be a hint at the identity of whatever is hiding at Gobleki Tepe. This creature could a giant scorpion-like Titan, which would certainly make him an interesting and unique addition to the MonsterVerse. Godzilla has appeared in over 30 movies at this point, but never before has he battled a giant scorpion.

What The Mystery Titan Can Mean For The MonsterVerse

What would the existence of this mystery Titan — whether it be a scorpion or some other creature — mean for Godzilla and the future of the MonsterVerse? First of all, if the last lines in the redacted text are related to the Titan teased in the coordinates, this could have disastrous implications for the MonsterVerse. The line about "how long will it take for the fires to awaken" could mean that the creature hasn't woken up yet. But the credits seem to be suggesting that a catastrophe could occur if and when he does wake up with the line "and send our own civilization into collapse." These lines of text are broken up, so this may not be the whole message, but it certainly sounds like this Titan has the potential to doom all of civilization. It's an ominous warning to be sure, and it could be filled with meaning for the MonsterVerse.

In fact, this could factor heavily into the plot of Godzilla vs. Kong. It's been confirmed that Monarch will be digging into the origin of the Titans, and the credits have revealed that they'll begin this journey by exploring the tunnels into Hollow Earth. It's possible that going too deep into Hollow Earth is what wakes up this new titan from his slumber, and triggers the doomsday scenario mentioned in the redacted text. If this happens in Godzilla vs. Kong, the mystery Titan could be a secret villain in the movie. If Godzilla vs. Kong does lead to a team-up, multiple villains may be called for, and that could be where this secret Titan comes in. Godzilla and Kong may have to battle both Mechagodzilla and this unidentified creature. Alternatively, the events of Godzilla vs. Kong could simply set up his awakening for a later movie. If this is the case, Godzilla 3  — if it ever happens — could give the King of the Monsters another fight for the crown.
