Some think that Gigan may arrive on Earth in Godzilla 3, but it could be that he’s already been discovered by the MonsterVerse’s humans. Gigan, an iconic villain of the Japanese pop culture icon, has always been depicted as an alien invader in Toho’s movies, so it stands to reason that his MonsterVerse counterpart will share the same origin.

Known for handing Gojira a bloody beatdown in Godzilla vs. Gigan, the extraterrestrial cyborg is one of the franchise’s biggest villains, having served as an antagonist in three movies. Following his debut in Godzilla vs. Gigan, the creature returned to menace the King of the Monsters and Jet Jaguar in Godzilla vs. Megalon, and wasn’t touched again until 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, where he received an impressive design upgrade. In recent years, he emerged as a fan-favorite choice for Godzilla 3’s villain, alongside names like Biollante and Destoroyah. If the MonsterVerse does continue with a third Godzilla installment, any of the three would make sense for the movie’s main villain.

By traveling through outer space, Gigan could join the MonsterVerse in the same way that he entered the picture in Toho’s movies. Or, Godzilla 3 can explain that Gigan, like Ghidorah, has been on Earth for untold millennia. After all, there’s no reason why Ghidorah has to be the only alien on the MonsterVerse’s Earth. In fact, Gigan could have accompanied him from the same world, which is what happened in his debut movie. In the 1972 film, they were a duo. This could have been true for the MonsterVerse characters as well, with the biggest difference being that one of them is now dead. Gigan existing somewhere in the MonsterVerse is certainly plausible, especially since Godzilla: King of the Monsters has intentionally opened the door for many more Toho kaiju by making it clear that the list of known Titans will continue to grow.

Gigan wasn’t among the 17 Titans on Monarch’s radar in King of the Monsters, but he could have been discovered prior to the events of Godzilla vs. Kong. If so, he could be located at Roswell, New Mexico, a place that has long been the subject of potential alien activity. Godzilla vs. Kong hinted at something mysterious going on at Roswell in two separate instances. When Team Godzilla stumbled upon the Skullcrawler eggs, it was said that they were being shipped to Roswell. And at the end of the movie, Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry) asked Mark (Kyle Chandler) if he would join his podcast to talk about Roswell. This was played off for humor, but it is possible that Bernie has heard that Monarch is running some sort of secret operation there.

If Gigan is indeed being monitored at Roswell, he could break free and face off against the reigning alpha of the Titans (and his minions) in the MonsterVerse’s future. Since Gigan was an ally to another villain in all three of his prior movie appearances, Godzilla 3 can be the first film to make him the central antagonist.
