A scene that didn't make the final cut in Godzilla 2014 has Toho films make a cameo. The MonsterVerse started with Godzilla, re-introducing audiences to the world's most famous creature. Later this year sees the release of Godzilla vs. Kong, an event film promising a battle between titans.

It has been nearly six years since 2014's Godzilla. Many fans appreciated the grounded, respectful approach to the source material in comparison to Roland Emmerich's Godzilla from 1998. Bryan Cranston's character received praise, and the special effects saw acclaim. Godzilla's arrival at the airport has been immortalized as a fantastic entrance for the character. The film takes a buildup approach, not unlike Jaws. Although a number of fans did not like the approach, one can argue it was successful in building suspense for the climax, which saw Godzilla unleash his iconic atomic ray. Godzilla would go on to make a little over half a billion dollars at the box office, successful enough to launch a cinematic universe. Of course, without Toho, none of this would be possible. Edwards paid tribute to Toho films in one deleted scene.

Online watch parties are a popular thing right now due to social distancing. Yesterday, Legendary Pictures' Godzilla Twitter account held a watch party for Godzilla 2014, with none other than director Gareth Edwards at the helm revealing fun facts. One particularly interesting tidbit is there was a scene filmed that would have featured Toho films. Check out the Tweet below.

Edwards doesn't reveal which Toho films are in this scene. It would have been ironic if it was Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, foreshadowing Godzilla: King of the Monsters five years later. It's also probable these were non-Godzilla Toho films, such as Seven Samurai or Gorath. Unfortunately, this scene would not be used in the final cut of the movie. Fans are hoping for a 4K release of the film with deleted scenes, as the Blu-ray release did not feature even one deleted scene. Akira Takarada's deleted cameo has been long sought by fans. There will be watch parties for Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters on April 9 and April 23 respectively.

What's next for Godzilla in the MonsterVerse? Godzilla: King of the Monsters saw Godzilla defeat Ghidorah, reclaiming the throne. Godzilla will collide with Kong for reasons unknown. Technically, both edge on the side of good, but a conflict could be brewing after monsters arrive on Skull Island. Fans will have to wait and see how everything plays out in November. A recent toy leak does reveal a new titan will be featured.
