God's Favorite Idiot, released on Netflix on June 15, shows that even in the apocalypse, there are likable people to be found. Starring Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, the comedy series details the events of what happens when a kind-hearted individual is chosen to spread God's message amidst the apocalypse in modern times.

The cast of characters is certainly colorful; as one would expect in a story of the end times, there are characters that audiences like, characters that they hate, and a plethora of people that fall somewhere in the middle.

Satan

Gods Favorite Idiot Satan

Easily one of the most dislikable characters in the show, Satan is what anyone would expect her to be: pure, unhinged evil. Granted,  it's never a boring time with Satan on-screen.

However, it doesn't change the fact that she's done horrible things that make her an unlikable character. In the first minute fans see her, she litters and flips a child off. Satan is extremely dedicated to her job and will do whatever it takes to kill Clark. However, as Wendy states in the last episode, Satan wants more. She wants to be taken seriously by the people surrounding her; she wants power.

God

Dressed in the body of his fourth-grade teacher, God seems to be a kind and well-meaning presence. She is also very forgiving; even though Clark doesn't complete his task of spreading God's message, she isn't harsh with him and gives his reassurance.

However, God is not straightforward at all. God doesn't seem to be much help despite being an otherworldly, godly being with seemingly almighty powers. Not to say that God is completely useless; she provides Clark with some hints to help him along as well as makes the effort to be comforting. However, it would be much easier for everyone involved if God gave Clark a list of exactly what to do just to save everyone the trouble. However, such is God's plan.

Tom

Tom looking confused in God's Favorite Idiot.

Tom can be unbearably annoying, as evidenced by how many times he attempts to make conversation in the bathroom stall with his coworkers. Later, it's revealed that he lies frequently in an attempt to be superior, hoping that people won't call him on his bluff. Unfortunately for him, this usually backfires.

Tom makes it his mission to be Clark's "bodyguard" and has a touching moment in the hospital next to Clark's father when he thinks about the war in heaven and the apocalypse and everything Clark has to do in order to save everyone. Tom is determined to do his part. In this moment, Tom is redeemed by showing his dutiful and true nature. Even though, later on, he brags about being "Tom the Baptist" by healing his father with a single tear, Tom doesn't falter when it comes to putting in the effort to protect his friends.

Amily

Amily and Clarke looking confused in God's Favorite Idiot.

Amily comes onto the show strongly as an unlikable character. She is irritable and rude, and the way she's written almost makes her seem desperate to be the center of attention.

She frequently overindulges in vices, and she has the worst work ethic out of the already lacking group. However, Amily does have some redeeming factors. Her relationship with Clark (possibly indicative of her real-life relationship with Ben Falcone) showcases a much softer and caring side of her. With him, she becomes fiercely protective and supportive. Despite her shortcomings, she is favored by God, quoted as "a doer." Even when faced with a life-or-death situation with Satan on their tail, she worries about Clark first. Amily is a trying character, but it's easy to warm up to her later on.

Chamuel

Chamuel smiling and spreading his arms in God's Favorite Idiot.

Chamuel's role is to aid Clark while battling the demons in heaven. Considering everything on his plate, it's a wonder that Chamuel hasn't lost his patience, even as an angel.

However, he never fails to greet Clark and Amily with a smile on his face and tries his best to deliver bad news in a manageable way. There's not much to Chamuel's character outside of that. His personality matches that of a typical angel's: neutral and calm, intimidating yet friendly. Despite being an angel, he's not visually or mentally striking. This, however, can be a good thing, as he joins the ranks of characters like Wendy or Mohsin as characters whose calm and simple demeanors balance out those more extremes, like Satan or Amily.

Mohsin

Mohsin at his desk in God's Favorite Idiot.

Mohsin is straightforward and not too extreme. However, one of his shortcomings is the fact that he can be a bit too honest to the point where he doesn't think about the effects he might have on surrounding individuals.

For instance, when Clark is worrying about his powers, he brings up the fact that Clark might combust from the inside and proceeds to explain the processes without regard to Clark's mental or emotional wellbeing. This may be the reason why he and Wendy work so well; Wendy is the more thoughtful one and seems to fill in where he's lacking. There is something to be said about his determination, though. As he candidly states, he is not a fan of failure, and he will continue to work at something to the point of exhaustion.

Frisbee

Frisbee frowning and looking confused in God's Favorite Idiot.

Frisbee is set up at the beginning of the show as the butt of the joke. He's constantly disregarded by his subordinates, so it's a wonder that he's a supervisor -- especially in his interactions with Amily. Frisbee absolutely fails at taking charge of any situation.

Surprisingly, it's revealed that he's an angel as well. He focuses heavily on paperwork in the human and angelic realm, and he isn't trusted with huge projects. Still, the audience sees him try his best with what he's got, giving Clark a ride to his house to save his father from Satan as well as "Harry Pottering" the hospital despite his own beliefs of having to go through the necessary paperwork to do so. Frisbee may be a weaker character in the obvious sense, but he's got conviction to him when it comes to party loyalty and intention.

Wendy

Wendy in the office smiling in God's Favorite Idiot.

Wendy is a very understanding and kind individual, and she doesn't seem to change much as the season goes on. She's one of the characters who stay comfortably constant, someone to rely on in case the characters need someone to care for them.

For example, as trying as Amily can get, she doesn't stop being a listening ear and supporter for her. Even if she is a terrible gift giver (she gives a candle that smells like testicles to Clark and an extremely difficult puzzle to Mohsin), it doesn't change the fact that she does her best to think about the people she cares about. Later on, she is able to see into the hearts of people and tell what they are wishing for. She uses this ability for the first time with Satan, saving the party from devastation.

Clark's Dad

Gene at the hospital in God's Favorite Idiot.

Clark's father is closer to him compared to his mother. The two spend time together in the sauna and are generally on good terms. His charm comes from his simplicity.

It may be unreasonable to think that someone who has known their child for their entire life will believe in them when they say that they're some chosen messenger of God, and Clark's father acts accordingly. However, despite being hurt and putting up boundaries, he's never condemning or dismissive of Clark. Unlike the other characters, Clark's father isn't extreme. He's one of the most level-headed characters in the cast. So, it's a nice reprieve to see him on screen when the zany troupe gets to be a bit much.

Clark

Gods Favorite Idiot Four Horsemen Clark

A proud, soft-mannered father of cats, we see him develop strange powers that he ultimately uses for good. It's no wonder that he's the one chosen by God, as he shows himself to be the most selfless and likable of the characters.

Clark brings a dead bird back to life after pitying it. He's a nervous wreck when it comes to confrontation (but doesn't let it ultimately stop him), and he's a generally forgiving individual. He treats Milton Thropp, after being publicly criticized by him, with understanding and forgiveness. Even his relationship with Amily, a generally stressful person, shows that he brings out the best in what people have to offer.
