The new God of War Ragnarök trailer was released during the recent PlayStation Showcase, and the footage shows off some of the weapons that Kratos will use in the new game. The highly anticipated sequel to 2018's God of War continues the story of Kratos and Atreus as they attempt to find the Norse God of War, Tyr, and prevent the impending Ragnarök event. It looks to be a daunting task for the father/son duo, and Kratos will need some powerful weapons to help them get the job done.

Kratos has used a number of different mythological weapons to take on the Greek and Norse forces that he has encountered across all of the games in the God of War franchiseIn the earlier games, his status as a god of war saw him wield weapons like the Blade of Olympus and the Claws of Hades to exact revenge against the Greek Gods. The 2018 reboot saw Kratos try to give up his past of violence, but the arrival of Baldur forced him take up arms once more to protect his son.

God of War Ragnarök's first gameplay trailer revealed new story details and showed the types of perils that Kratos and an older Atreus will face in the newest game. The trailer showed off some combat scenarios that the game will feature, highlighting some of the weapons that Kratos will wield along the way. His arsenal looks to include a majority of weapons from the previous game, and these are the ones that were spotted in the trailer.

Every Weapon in God Of War Ragnarök's Trailer

God of War Ragnarok Kratos with the Leviathan Axe

One of the main weapons shown in the God of War Ragnarök trailer is Kratos' trusty Leviathan Axe, which was the main weapon used in God of War 2018. Forged by Dwarf brothers Sindri and Brok as a gift to Kratos' wife Laufaye, the Leviathan Axe could be thrown/recalled by Kratos at will and freeze enemies in their tracks with its frost properties. The trailer shows Kratos wielding the Leviathan Axe in the same manner, although it's fair to assume that the demigod will have some new moves up his sleeve this time around.

Also making a return in God of War Ragnarök are the Blades of Chaos, a mainstay from the God of War franchise that made an appearance in the later stages of God of War 2018. Created by the God of War Ares himself in the pits of Hades, the Blades were infused with fire and allows Kratos to ignite enemies during attacks. The Blades can also stretch a set distance to pull enemies closer and lets Kratos perform sweeping attacks, which presents a combat style that switches between close and medium range encounters. Along with its normal status as a weapon, it looks like Kratos' Blades of Chaos are going to be used to help him traverse the Nine Realms, with footage showing the demigod throwing a Blade into a wooden structure and ascending towards an enemy rather quickly.

The only other weapon that was shown in the Ragnarök trailer would be Kratos' Guardian Shield that he carries into battle. It's not a typical weapon in the way that the Axe and Blades are, but Kratos was able to put the shield to destructive effect in the previous game, and a sequence in the trailer where Kratos slams his shield into the ground to stagger an enemy suggests that he will be using it in a similar fashion. Kratos will also still be able to command Atreus to fire his bow at enemies to aid in combat, but it's not a weapon that Kratos can directly use himself. There's always the potential that Santa Monica Studios will include some surprise weapons in the game (like Thor's hammer Mjolnir), but fans will just have to speculate until God of War Ragnarök releases or another trailer is offered.
