With the addition of God of War to PC, some franchise fans may wonder if God of War Ragnarok may also arrive on PC in the future. Console exclusives are a common source of frustration to non-console players or gamers with the opposite console. Unfortunately, the price tags attached to these deals are often too profitable for developers to pass up. Despite the profits that come from exclusivity to popular titles and franchises, God of War Ragnarok could likely make its way to PC at some point in the coming years.

God of War Ragnarok's story begins as Fimbulwinter draws to a close, three years after the conclusion of 2018's God of War. With Baldur dead, Ragnarok is steadily coming to the Nine Realms, leaving a teenaged Atreus struggling against his inherent nature and identity as Loki. With Kratos and Atreus desperate to stop Ragnarok, the pair search for the Norse God of War, Tyr, who Odin locked away millennia prior. Unfortunately, the murder of Baldur, Magni, and Modi has brought the wrath of Thor and Freya upon the father-son duo. Both seek vengeance for the deaths of their sons, eager to make Kratos feel their pain.

As more console exclusives from PlayStation and Xbox have steadily been making their way to PC, increasing the likelihood that God of War Ragnarok is slated for a PC release in the future. In 2022, Sony is scheduled to bring seven PlayStation exclusives to PC, including Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharged: A Legacy of Thieves Collection, Returnal, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Helldivers, and Horizon Forbidden West. The biggest surprise on this list is Horizon Forbidden West, as the game is scheduled for a February release for PlayStation but arrives on PC in September of the same year. The limited exclusivity window points toward PC sales rivaling profits brought on by exclusive deals and is a promising sign for Ragnarok's PC debut.

God of War PC's Success Could Determine Ragnarok's PC Port

While it's unlikely for God of War Ragnarok to move to PC without proven success for God of War's PC version, Sony could be embracing PC ports for PlayStation exclusives as a new industry standard. However, those eager to see more PlayStation and Xbox exclusives can show support by purchasing these titles through Steam, Epic Games, Origin, or other online distributors. Of course, the bigger the profit margins on PC, the higher the chance to increase accessibility to formerly exclusive titles.

It took God of War four years to port to PC, which sets up a timeline for God of War Ragnarok's exclusivity to PlayStation and possible PC port development. Jetpack Interactive's work in developing a God of War PC version presents a timeline for the project's release. It's unknown if Jetpack Interactive has already begun working on a PC port for Ragnarok, which could accelerate the timeline and make the wait for the game much shorter than previously.

Though Sony has no word on whether God of War Ragnarok will release on PC, the pattern of PlayStation exclusives and the latest God of War porting to PC is a promising sign. The franchise's popularity combined with the anticipation surrounding Ragnarok suggests sales on PC could be promising for Sony and Santa Monica Studio's profits in the long run. Unfortunately, it's unlikely for God of War Ragnarok to release on PC at any point soon, as the game still doesn't have a set release date. God of War Ragnarok is scheduled for a 2022 release on PlayStation 4 and 5.
