A new cinematic trailer for God of War Ragnarök was released today, and it reveals a potential future ally for Kratos and his son Atreus. Since the game will take place around the apocalyptic event called Ragnarök, there will be some important allies for Kratos and his son. In the previous game, players have met a few, such as the World Serpent, but the cinematic trailer reveals another potential monster ally.

Ragnarök is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on November 9, 2022. Since the last God of War game, there has been much anticipation for this next entry in the series. This anticipation has increased with every character reveal and the knowledge that the game will occur during the end of the world according to Norse mythology. There is a differing opinion on if Ragnarök can live up to the hype, but the new trailer no doubt has fans excited.

The new cinematic trailer called Father and Son is only 30 seconds long, but it reveals a potential continued theme of unity in the game. After all, Kratos and Atreus are fighting enemies together. The biggest reveal in the trailer, however, is a potential ally that appears at the very end.Dialog In Ragnarök's New Trailer Hints At Fenrir Being An Ally

As Kratos and Atreus fight in the trailer, they take turns speaking about the fear of being alone and weak, then together they say, “you are not alone.” It is expected that the two will fight side-by-side like in the previous game, so perhaps this reminder is for each other. However, there is a chance that this phrase can be a reminder for something bigger, perhaps a reminder to God of War's Atreus - who changed the series - and Kratos that they do not have to fight the gods and their enemies just the two of them. After all, Ragnarök involves several mythical entities fighting the gods.

In Norse mythology, Fenrir is a giant wolf who was the child of Loki. The other gods feared Fenrir because of his growing size, so Fenrir was tricked and tied up. However, it was believed that he would escape his chains during Ragnarök and eat everything in the world including Odin. In the Father and Son trailer, there is a giant wolf who appears to have a shackle on his leg. The game may not follow Norse mythology accurately, but it's possible Kratos and Atreus search for Fenrir to free him. Kratos and Atreus have already met several Norse gods in God of War, along with the World Serpent, and have heard of Surtr in the previous game. Both the World Serpent and Surtr are also prophesied to play a part in Ragnarök, and they may be seen more during the new game. So, it makes sense that the giant wolf in the trailer can potentially be Fenrir and his alignment against the gods may make him a future ally.

There is also a chance that this wolf is not Fenrir, making it a possible new enemy. This could be a significant encounter for Kratos and Atreus, possibly something dangerous sent by Odin. Players will likely need to wait for the release of God of War Ragnarök to find out the answer definitively.
