While God of War Ragnarok is incredible on a first playthrough, the mythic action game needs to implement New Game Plus to make subsequent playthroughs more engaging. 2018's God of War also launched without New Game Plus, but the feature was thankfully added in a free post-launch update. With God of War Ragnarok matching the acclaim and surpassing the size of its predecessor, the addition of New Game Plus will finally be arriving in Spring 2023.

When it was eventually added to the 2018 action game, New Game Plus in God of War breathed new life into the mythological RPG. The mode adds a variety of unique new armor sets to a second playthrough, including the humorous Cod of War set and the powerful Armor of Ares. Players can also collect upgraded New Game Plus versions of old armor sets and weapon attachments, which receive stronger stats and alternate designs. New Game Plus adds a new resource, Skap Slag, which is used to upgrade these brand-new items. While NG+ in God of War Ragnarok will presumably make these same additions, further changes could help make subsequent playthroughs of the sequel more fun.

GoW Ragnarok's New Game Plus Can Add Cosmetic Outfits

New and enhanced armor sets are an expected part of New Game+, but God of War Ragnarok could also introduce new cosmetic items too. Compared to the last game God of War Ragnarok adds armor adjustments that allow players to transmog their gear, giving Kratos the stats of one piece and appearance of another. New Game+ could expand this feature to let players equip exclusively cosmetic outfits that don't affect gameplay. This could bring back Kratos' famous fur cloak, which looks awesome but is lost mere minutes into God of War Ragnarok. Iconic designs from the protagonist's past, like his classic Greek design or God of War armor, could also reappear as bonus NG+ cosmetics.

GoW Ragnarok Can Give Atreus New Bows In NG+

While adding new weapons for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok is a tall order, New Game+ could possibly introduce new bows for Atreus. Despite being a major playable character for long stretches of the sequel, GoW Ragnarok's Atreus sections only give the young demigod three different bows to wield. Each of these ranged weapons is fairly similar, outside of specific perks and Atreus' firing pattern, which would make implementing additional bows fairly simple. Perhaps New Game+ could add a bow that fires slower yet more powerful arrows, or a rapid-fire bow that packs less of a punch.

New armor sets and resources are great, but New Game+ in God of War Ragnarok should add more new content to match the sequel's size. New cosmetic items could take advantage of the game's transmog system and let players don more unique outfits, like Kratos' fur cloak or godly armor. New armor sets also wouldn't benefit Atreus much, so new bows would help keep his sections fresh too. While Santa Monica Studio has not officially discussed much about God of War Ragnarok getting New Game Plus, the beloved feature is set to release in Spring 2023.
