Fans shouldn’t expect any major DLC expansions for God of War Ragnarok, at least not according to director Eric Williams. Kratos and Atreus’ latest journey through the Nine Realms of Norse myth finally launched on PlayStation consoles earlier this month, earning near-universal acclaim for its blistering combat, impressive visuals, and emotionally charged story. In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos and Atreus search for clues about the titular final battle to determine the fate of the world while fighting against old foes and new enemies alike.

God of War Ragnarok is a massive game already, and there probably won’t be DLC expansions for it any time soon. God of War Ragnarok director Eric Williams recently sat down for an interview with the Kinda Funny Games podcast (via Game Rant), during which the subject of future DLC came up. Williams replied that he “wouldn't count on it” due to how big the base version of Ragnarok is, stating that he and his team at Sony Santa Monica “put everything [they] had into it.”

God Of War Ragnarök Might Not Have Story DLC

While the news that God of War Ragnarok probably won’t be getting any additional story content could be disappointing for fans hoping to see Kratos’s epic journey continue, it isn’t that surprising. 2018’s massively successful God of War reboot also lacked any major DLC updates aside from a God of War New Game Plus mode that allowed players to replay the story with all the equipment and experience they gathered on their initial playthrough. God of War Ragnarok doesn’t currently have this feature, but it could be added at some point.

Of course, there will also be plenty of smaller DLC updates for God of War Ragnarok, just not any that add story missions. Not too long after the game’s initial release, Sony Santa Monica released the God of War Ragnarok 2.02 update patch, which fixed several game crashes and other minor issues in the PS4 version as well as adding a Polish language track for players who purchased the game in that country. The developer has also stated that a future God of War Ragnarok update will add the popular Photo Mode from God of War (2018), which is currently absent from the base game as of this writing.

However, it appears that any DLC updates will only be to address technical issues and add minor features, if Eric Williams’s recent statement is anything to go by. God of War Ragnarok already features a long and emotional conclusion to Kratos and Atreus’ time in the Nine Realms, and while there could be another God of War game in the future, Sony Santa Monica likely feels that God of War Ragnarok’s tale is already complete.
