While God of War Ragnarok is already a massive mythological epic, a secret cut ending could be the perfect subject of a potential DLC. The beloved sequel boasts an expansive and emotional story which takes Kratos and Atreus across the Nine Realms as they face a wide range of godly foes. God of War Ragnarok perfectly wraps up the franchise's Norse saga, but a cut storyline and side quest is worth exploring in the future.

[Warning: the following article contains spoilers for God of War Ragnarok.]

Some of God of War Ragnarok's biggest story spoilers involve Surtr, the mythic fire giant destined to destroy Asgard during Ragnarok. After Odin shockingly murders Brok towards the end of the game, Kratos and Atreus seek out Surtr in an attempt to jumpstart Ragnarok and destroy the All-Father. The affable fire giant is reluctant to take part in this destined destruction at first, because it would require combining with and killing his love Sinmara. Kratos' Blades of Chaos provide a convenient way around this problem, however, letting Surtr transform into his destructive fated form and eventually lay waste to Asgard.

The frosty giant Sinmara, a character who was cut from God of War Ragnarok

Sinmara never actually appears in God of War Ragnarok's main story, merely being heard in audio as she mourns Surtr's death, but she originally played a major role in the plot. YouTuber Omega Fantasy recently uncovered subtitles that reveal a large cut side plot which would've seen Kratos and Atreus track down Sinmara to ensure Ragnarok's success. This cut content would portray a darker side of Atreus, with the mischievous demigod's obsession with revenge leading him to lie and tell Sinmara that Odin was responsible for Surtr's death. This would convince Sinmara to fuse with Surtr's heart, completing the gigantic Ragnarok monster and leading into the endgame.

This subplot involving Sinmara would have also led to an endgame questline after beating God of War Ragnarok, which would reveal what became of Surtr and his love. Kratos, Freya and Mimir would've stumbled upon Sinmara's heart, possibly in Svartalfheim, with Kratos revealing Atreus' deceit of Sinmara to his companions. Surtr's heart could then be found in Vanaheim, letting the player lay the two hearts to rest together where they both died in the Spark of the World. This quest would also give closure to Freya following her brother Freyr's death during Ragnarok, with Mimir suggesting that the reunited hearts could trigger the vengeful return of the powerful Ragnarok monster.

Sinmara Could Return In God Of War Ragnarok DLC

The enormous monster Ragnarok marches on Asgard in God of War Ragnarok

Sinmara's role was mostly cut from God of War Ragnarok, but Surtr's frosty mate could return as DLC. Adding her back into the complete God of War Ragnarok story seems impossible, but Sinmara could be introduced in a DLC side quest that combines her cut story role and post-game quest. Perhaps Kratos could track down Sinmara in Niflheim to tell her about Surtr's death, leading to new boss fights and gear. This story could end with players uniting the hearts of Surtr and Sinmara in the Spark of the World as originally intended, perhaps even leading to a climactic endgame battle against the unstoppable Ragnarok monster.

Surtr plays a small yet crucial role in God of War Ragnarok, making his beloved Sinmara a very conspicuous absence from the story. The game's director gave a disappointing update on God of War Ragnarok DLC after release, suggesting that no post-launch expansions are currently planned. However, adding Sinmara as a short endgame quest would be a perfect way to give closure to the franchise's Norse saga. The story of God of War Ragnarok originally saw Atreus go to dark places and manipulate Sinmara for vengeance, and this interesting plot could still be added back into Kratos' latest journey.
