A behind-the-scenes deep dive into God of War Ragnarök has unveiled brand-new enemies, and new moves to help Kratos and Atreus defeat them. The highly anticipated sequel is only weeks away, and fans are no doubt eager to leap back into the brutal world of Norse mythology. A weekly God of War Ragnarok behind-the-scenes series will continue airing up to and after the game's launch, with this week's entry focusing on the game's intense combat mechanics.

God of War Ragnarok will serve as a follow-up to 2018's God of War, continuing Kratos and Atreus' epic Norse journey while making important innovations in gameplay. Enemy variety was one of the few criticisms leveled against the previous game, and developer Santa Monica Studios looks to be directly addressing this feedback. God of War Ragnarok has teased several epic boss encounters with foes like the God of Thunder Thor and the Vanir goddess Freya. Typical encounters will apparently be much more diverse, too, with the God of War Ragnarok enemy roster now including creatures like Light Elves, Raiders and the monstrous Dreki.

The second episode of the God of War Ragnarok behind-the-scenes series, posted to YouTube by PlayStation, focuses on the title's upgraded combat system. The series' second episode sees Kratos and Atreus fight all manner of deadly creatures, including the electrical crocodilian Dreki and the dual sword-wielding Light Elf Warrior. Atreus' moveset has reportedly been expanded, with the young demigod moving independently and bringing his own melee and magical attacks to the battlefield. Kratos will also use new moves, grappling around with the Blades of Chaos and brandishing a variety of shield types. Verticality is also a big part of combat in God of War Ragnarok, with Kratos swinging around the environment and leaping down to deliver deadly blows.

God of War Ragnarok Delivers Even More Intense Battles

While some God of War Ragnarok spoilers were recently leaked online, the sequel still seems to have plenty of tricks up its sleeves. These leaks were seemingly only pulled from the first few hours of the game, and rumors suggest that the final version of the title will be substantially longer than the series' 2018 installment. Santa Monica Studio has given fans an amazing deep dive into the game's combat, but God of War Ragnarok is no doubt keeping some mechanics and features a secret until launch.

2018's God of War successfully revamped the franchise's frenetic combat, and God of War Ragnarok looks to truly embrace and improve that system. Kratos and Atreus will face a huge range of enemies on their journey through the Nine Realms, but enhanced mobility and new combination attacks will help the dynamic duo stay two steps ahead of their foes. As the November 9 release date of God of War Ragnarok approaches, fans should start dusting off their chained blades and sharpening their magical frost axes.
