A new God of War Ragnarök artbook is going to be released this fall, not too long after Kratos and Atreus’s latest and final journey across the Nine Realms of Nordic myth. Excitement for God of War Ragnarök has been building since the game was officially announced during last September’s PlayStation Showcase livestream, and while God of War Ragnarök was delayed from its initial release later that year, Sony Santa Monica has finally revealed that it will launch on November 9.

The plot of God of War Ragnarök will pick up a few years after 2018’s God of War reboot left off, with Kratos and his son Atreus being drawn into battle once more to uncover and hopefully prevent an ancient prophecy foretelling the end of the world. Along the way, the father-son duo will journey across even more of the Nine Realms in search of allies and battle powerful foes, with Kratos eventually coming face-to-face with the brutish Thunder God Thor, as hinted at in the previous God of War game’s secret ending. There will no doubt be plenty of breathtaking sights to see during this great adventure, and a recently announced book will feature the impressive concept artwork that the developers at Sony Santa Monica used to bring God of War Ragnarök to life.

Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge author Amy Ratcliffe revealed her latest project in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics and Sony Santa Monica: a collective art book titled The Art of God of War Ragnarök. As Radcliffe stated in a post on her Twitter account, this hardcover book will be released on November 29 and features never-before-seen concept art of the many characters, creatures, weapons, and locations that Kratos and Atreus encounter in GoW Ragnarök's story. Ratcliffe added that it was fun diving into the world of Kratos’s next big title and speaking with the team at Sony Santa Monica about their designs for the Ghost of Sparta’s final trek through Asgard. The Art of God of War Ragnarök is now available to preorder on Amazon, and the stunning cover depicting Kratos and Atreus locked in combat against their former ally-turned vengeance-driven enemy Freya can be seen in Ratcliffe’s Tweet below.

Interestingly enough, a previously leaked alternate cover for The Art of God of War Ragnarök left fans speculating about the fate of Kratos and Atreus’s helpful ally Mimir, namely that the talking severed head could receive a new body during the game’s events. This is just one of the many fan theories players have devised during the long wait for God of War Ragnarök, with some players speculating that either Kratos or Atreus will wield Thor’s legendary hammer Mjolnir at some point in the story, and that it could very well end in Kratos’s death.

However the tale of Kratos and Atreus ends in God of War Ragnarök, the many gameplay and story trailers released so far have indicated that the game will continue the God of War franchise’s penchant for impressive visuals and eye-catching designs in its characters, monsters, and setpieces. These designs will be displayed for all to see in The Art of God of War Ragnarök, which can now be pre-ordered ahead of its release on November 29 - a few weeks after the game itself comes to the PlayStation 4 and PS5.
