The armor system in God of War Ragnarök has apparently been enhanced with two new features that many fans requested after the previous game's launch. The upcoming sequel will see Kratos and Atreus journey across all Nine Realms, facing brand-new enemies using a slew of new and returning combat abilities. A God of War Ragnarok combat deep dive recently shed light on the game's enhanced fighting mechanics, and the sequel will allegedly make exciting changes to armor too.

While detailing hands-on impressions of God of War Ragnarok gameplay, YouTuber JorRaptor recently revealed an exciting change to the sequel's armor system. The series' 2018 installment featured many different armor sets of various power levels, and players were only able to upgrade these armors a maximum of three times. However, God of War Ragnarok will apparently let players upgrade any armor set to the max level of 9 provided they have the necessary resources. This means that any armor set in the game, including the furry shoulder guard worn by Kratos in promotional material, can be viable as endgame gear.

Each God of War armor set has distinct strengths and a unique appearance, but God of War YouTuber Jon Ford (via Twitter) claims that stats and designs will now be interchangeable. Apparently revealed during a Discord Q&A with God of War Ragnarok developers, the upcoming sequel will include an exciting armor transmog system. This system will let players imbue one armor's appearance with the statistics of another set, ensuring that Kratos can remain both functional and fashionable. It remains to be seen exactly how this transmog system will work, but it seems logical that the dwarven blacksmiths Brok and Sindri will play a key role in the mechanic.

Following the release of the previous God of War title, many players requested a transmog system to let them play the entire game with Kratos' original armor. The simple leather chestpiece was used throughout the 2018 title's marketing, and for many players it serves as the best outfit for the Ghost of Sparta's Norse adventure. The same goes for Kratos' winterized chestpiece in God of War Ragnarok, and thankfully players should now be able to carry this starting gear into the title's endgame by upgrading it to Level 9 or using the transmog system.

The armor system was one of the few sources of criticism in 2018's God of War, and thankfully God of War Ragnarok looks poised to fix up the last game's restrictive mechanic. By upgrading any armor set to Level 9, or using transmog to swap stats and designs, players can dress Kratos to the nines for his epic Norse adventure in God of War Ragnarok.
