However, Sony has repeatedly issued legal takedowns against those who develop these fan-made accessories, claiming that modifications infringe upon their copyright. However, an official patent was recently approved which will apparently allow Sony to produce and sell their own custom faceplates for the PS5. Even still, custom PS5 faceplates that make the system run cooler are reportedly in the works, and these creations may be able to avoid copyright claims.
In the latest case of PlayStation 5 modification, Reddit user Fan2fanbr has created a cosmetic kit which pays tribute to 2018's God of War. The mythological adventure game is considered one of Sony's finest exclusives, and the PS5 kit effectively honors that legacy. Iconic aspects of Sony Santa Monica's epic adventure are reflected in the Gamer Shield creation, such as the disembodied advisor Mimir and the mystical Leviathan Axe. The axe and Kratos' Guardians Shield adorn one faceplate, with the other bearing the game's golden handprint icon. The entire kit is reportedly simple to apply and remove, and the cosmetic appliance apparently does not interfere with the system's delicate cooling fans at all.
