Christopher Judge, Kratos' game voice actor from God of War, shares a funny comment about actor Dave Bautista's fan-casting as the character in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video live-action series adaptation. The first God of War game was released in 2005, telling the story of Spartan warrior Kratos as he gets betrayed by the Greek god Ares, who makes Kratos kill his own family. He then starts a revenge tour that ultimately leads to him being crowned the new God of War. In 2018, after a series of games set in Greek mythology, God of War rebooted itself. Kratos was reintroduced as the father to a special boy called Atreus, with the story set in Norse mythology. It is reportedly the story's newer version that will be adapted into Amazon's God of War series.Judge joked on Twitter about a fan-cast of Guardians of the Galaxy's Drax actor Bautista as Kratos for the live-action series.

The original Kratos voice actor appears to be okay with the prospect of not reprising his video game role in live-action, based on his funny remark. However, should the opportunity arise, there's no doubt that the physically imposing Judge could faithfully become Kratos in live-action, a sentiment shared in the comments of the actor's tweet.

Why Dave Bautista Is A Good Fit For Kratos

If Judge does not return to play his video game character Kratos in live-action (as is commonly the case with game adaptations in Hollywood), the fan-cast of Bautista would leave the character in very good hands since someone fitting will likely portray him. Bautista started his mainstream media career as the wrestler "Batista" in the WWE before transitioning to work as an actor. Since then, Bautista has thrived in acting with the character Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, along with roles in hit movies, such as Blade Runner 2049, Dune, and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

The qualities needed to play Kratos require both the necessary physicality to play the title character of the God of War series and the ability to infuse the hard-shelled character with subtle aspects that humanize him. Bautista has portrayed complex characters before, like his role as a wise replicant in Blade Runner 2049, demonstrating his expertise in delivering nuanced performances that resonate with audiences. Perhaps the actor's skill set is more well-suited to take on Kratos' personality from the God of War reboot games and, in a positive turn for Bautista, it appears that's the way the God of War show is headed.

There are not many available details pertaining to the Amazon live-action God of War series, as the project is still in early stages of development. However, the show's announcement did come with a tease from Amazon Studios Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, that the God of War show could be following the story from the game reboot, with Sanders saying, "At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape." In the end, whoever the God of War show casts as Kratos will have the hard job of not only being faithful to the source material, but improving upon it.
