Sony's God of War celebrated Father's Day with a heart-warming trailer that made gaming fans everywhere feel all fuzzy inside. Emotions may not immediately spring to mind when thinking of God of War, but as Sony brought a new title to the series in 2018 and introduced Kratos' son Atreus, developers at Sony Santa Monica Studios put the feels back into the franchise.

Across seven games and 13 years, God of War became a lonely adventure as the Ghost of Sparta battled his way through Greek mythology and sliced the heads off various deities. With a change of pace and a change of scenery, 2018's God of War took Kratos to the realms of Midgard and gave him his own son as a travelling partner. Thankfully, Atreus was a welcome addition to the series and it is hard to imagine God of War being such a success if it hadn't had the pint-sized archer by its side.

Shared on June 17, the PlayStation YouTube channel showcased some tender moments between Kratos and Atreus. The spoiler-filled trailer charted their journey through the game and reminded fans what made the duo such a fan-favorite pairing. As well Kratos teaching his son some valuable life lessons, the video also hones in on the key moment Atreus swaps his mother's knife for using his father's. All the video really needed to top it off was a cover of Cat Stevens' "Father and Son."

Sony wasn't the only one cashing in on the Father's Day hype for Kratos though. A candid shot on Imgur also caught a cosplaying Kratos and Atreus celebrating Father's Day in style while stopping off for a bite to eat at a fast food restaurant. Elsewhere, one Redditor shared an image of his very own Leviathan Axe that his son made for Father's Day. As well as God of War shifting a monumental five million copies and becoming the highest-rated PS4 exclusive of all time, it shows how much Sony had managed to break into the mainstream with the latest installment.

As for Sony's official celebration, the trailer showcases God of War's impressive graphics while reiterating the heart at the center of the story. Santa Monica head Cory Barlog has spoken numerous times about the work that went into God of War's lengthy development process and shared an emotional response to the game's glowing reviews. As Barlog and fans look ahead to God of War 5 and a continuing future, players can't wait to pick up the Leviathan Axe once again and step out into the icy plains with Atreus as a companion.
