A new God of War comic book series from Dark Horse called God of War: Fallen God will focus on Kratos' journey from the end of God of War 3 until the beginning of the most recent franchise entry on the PlayStation 4. Players familiar with the God of War series were taken aback when they were reintroduced to the character in the latest God of War title, as Kratos had not only grown older and abandoned the realm of Greek Mythology but he had also apparently mellowed out over the years and was now a father and teacher.

The Kratos in the first few God of War games was a much different character, far quicker to anger and even quicker to resort to violence. Many times in the early God of War games Kratos acted both selfishly and violently, and yet when players met him in the most recent entry he became known as Dad of Boy instead thanks to his more even temperament and apparent emotional growth. However well-received God of War on PS4 was, there were still some players who would have liked to have seen this character development happen on screen.

Now, thanks to a new reveal by Comic Book, those players who were wondering just exactly what happened to Kratos know they are finally getting some answers. According to the comic's description, after finally killing Zeus at the end of God of War 3 Kratos then "sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind." Apparently this new story will focus heavily on Kratos' inner demons, something which is also a driving force behind many of the video games in the God of War franchise. The description continues, saying "Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable - himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness." Check out the official Dark Horse cover for God of War: Fallen God below:

The series will follow Kratos as he "builds a new life for himself in the remote Norse wilds." Along with his own personal baggage that Kratos must overcome, he will apparently also have to battle outside forces, as God of War: Fallen God's description also states that "Kratos inadvertently sparks a feud with a mysterious cult of berserkers after attempting to save a stranger being mauled by a monstrous bear." The first issue of Fallen God is planned to release on June 24th.

The simple fact of Kratos attempting to rescue someone being mauled by a bear, instead of simply walking past and ignoring the incident completely, shows that the change towards progress is already happening inside Kratos. Perhaps finally defeating Zeus after so many years did bring the character a little bit of peace, or perhaps simply being alone in both the ocean and the desert allowed him enough time with his thoughts to learn how to empathize with others. For fans looking to bridge the story between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of God of War, this new comic sounds like a must-have.
