Goblin Slayer season 2 has been officially confirmed, but when will the new season premiere, and what will its plot focus on? The anime series is based on Kumo Kagyu and Noboru Kannatsuki’s light novels of the same name. As of now, there are 15 volumes of the series released in Japan, with a 16th set to premiere on July 14, 2022. The English novel translation is still trying to catch up, with Goblin Slayer Volume 14 being released on August 23rd, 2022, and the 15th volume still without a release date. Goblin Slayer is an anime series produced by White Fox that aired its first season internationally on Crunchyroll in 2018. It’s set in a dark fantasy world overrun with monsters in which people known as adventurers undertake monster-killing quests set by an organization called the Adventurer’s Guild in exchange for gold and glory.

The anime series Goblin Slayer season 1 introduced its titular protagonist, known only as "Goblin Slayer" – a young man who witnessed his family murdered at the hands of a horde of goblins as a child and now dedicates his life to hunting down and killing as many goblins as he can. Goblin Slayer season 1 follows Goblin Slayer as he forms a motley crew with a human rookie adventurer named Priestess, a High Elf Archer, a Dwarf Shaman, and a Lizard Priest to take on a group of goblins led by an unnaturally intelligent leader known as the Goblin Lord. Goblin Slayer season 1 followed the events depicted in the first and second volumes of Kagyu and Kannatsuki’s light novel series, and there's still plenty more source material to draw from for the show.

Goblin Slayer emerged as one of the most controversial new animes of 2018 thanks to a scene in its first episode that saw marauding goblins rape one of the Priestess’s fellow rookie adventurers – despite the series bearing a PG rating. Nevertheless, a Goblin Slayer movie (titled Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown) followed in 2020, and a second season of the anime was given the green light back in 2021 despite all of the controversies surrounding the first episode. Here’s everything we know about Goblin Slayer season 2.

Goblin Slayer Season 2: No Release Date Yet

Goblin Slayer

It was officially confirmed that Goblin Slayer season 2 was in the works at GA FES 2021 – a Livestream event held by Goblin Slayer light novel publishing house GA Bunko in January 2021. GA Bunko also released a promotional poster via Twitter and a teaser trailer on YouTube but studios have yet to announce when season 2 will be released. However, the Funimation anime Goblin Slayer season 1 was announced in early 2018 and released later that year. From announcement to release, it generally takes anywhere from 6-12 months, although Goblin Slayer season 2 has already exceeded that projected time limit. It's likely that the next installment in the series will drop sometime in 2022, with rough projections indicating a summer release - although nothing appears set in stone for the time being.

Goblin Slayer Season 2: Story Details

Goblin Slayer

Details about the plot of Goblin Slayer season 2 are just as scarce as its release date, although judging by what the first season of the anime and the Goblin Slayer movie covered, it’s possible to deduce what the second season might focus on. Season 1 of the Goblin Slayer franchise covered events featured in the first two volumes of the Goblin Slayer light novel series, while Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown adapted volume 5. Judging by that, Goblin Slayer season 2 will likely adapt events from volumes 3-4 and possibly volume 6 of the light novel series.

Goblin Slayer Season 2 Cast

As with release date info and story details, little has been revealed yet about the cast of Goblin Slayer season 2. That said, there's no reason to expect that the main cast of season 1 won't be returning, especially since season 2 is likely to pick up where season 1 left off in terms of adapting the manga. It's therefore probable that Goblin Slayer season 2's cast will feature Yuichiro Umehara as Goblin Slayer, Yui Ogura as Priestess, Nao Tôyama as High Elf Archer, Yûichi Nakamura as Dwarf Shaman, and Tomokazu Sugita as Lizard Priest. (The English dub of the series has voices provided by Brad Hawkins, Hayden Daviau, Mallorie Rodak, Barry Yandell, and Joshua Bangle, respectively). Of course, Goblin Slayer season 2 could also introduce a host of new characters and cast members as well, but this will ultimately remain unknown until the season gets a trailer or sees a release.
