Tesla will have more competition for its Cybertruck in the form of an all-electric Hummer from General Motors (GM). GM calls the Hummer EV SUV a 'supertruck' on account of it combining the features of a pickup truck and an SUV. It represents another high-profile addition to the embryonic all-electric utility vehicle category.

The Cybertruck is the most notable not least because of its cyberpunk-like design but also because of its specs. It is said to do 0-60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds or less, max out at 120 mph, and have a range of up to 500 miles, not to mention load and towing capacities of 3,500 lbs and 14,000 lbs, respectively. However, Tesla isn't the only player in the market. The Canoo Pickup Truck doesn't have quite as impressive figures but does have innovative features like steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire technologies, power supplies on all sides for tools, and various storage compartments and flip-down platforms. It will also be made available via subscription rather than purchase.

In a sense, the Hummer EV SUV falls somewhere between the practicality of the Canoo Pickup Truck and the dialed-up premium specs of the Tesla Cybretruck. There are five variants to choose from, ranging in price from $79,995 to $110,595, and the first two models will be available from early 2023. Depending on the configuration, the Hummer EV SUV will develop up to 830 hp, hit 60 mph from a standstill in less than 3.5 seconds, and provide 300 miles of range.

GM has focused the Hummer EV SUV on more than just the numbers, though. A premium interior features Transparent Sky Panels for panoramic views, an HD touchscreen display for controlling vehicle settings, and a Bose 14-speaker audio system. GM's UltraVision camera system provides all-around views, its Super Cruise driver assistance platform offers hands-free driving, Extract Mode raises the suspension to negotiate tough obstacles, and both front- and rear-wheel steering allow for CrabWalk capability, via which the vehicle can drive diagonally at low speeds.

There's also an Extreme Off-Road option to which buyers can upgrade. That swaps out of the 22-inch Edition 1 wheels for 18-inch wheels with 35-inch mud-terrain tires. It also adds underbody armor and rock sliders, a front eLocker, and virtual rear lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and the UltraVision camera package.
