While Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) is a harsh character on Glee, she softens over time and has a baby between seasons 3 and 4, and her daughter remains a mystery afterward. Sue is the coach of the Cheerios cheerleading team at William McKinley High and becomes the principal in season 5, although she is let go in season 6 for saying that Becky's (Lauren Potter) gun is hers. Sue's pregnancy storyline was surprising as she doesn't appear to like children or teenagers for that matter, as she is cold and demanding toward the students.
Sue shares that she is having a baby in season 3 but although there is a lot of attention paid to this change in her life, the plotline is ignored after a while, leading to questions about what happened to Sue's child. While Glee focuses on Sue's worst actions, the series could have gone into more detail about Sue's new parenthood journey as it helped her grow as a character.
Sue Sylvester Gives Birth To Robin Before Season 4
In season 3, episode 12, "The Spanish Teacher," Sue shares her desire to start a family, and in season 3, episode 14, "On My Way," she lets Quinn Fabray (Diana Agron) know that she's expecting. While the pregnancy is an important part of Sue's arc, after she has the baby before season 4 begins, Robin isn't seen much. This seems strange considering that Robin changes Sue's life and allows her to show a more compassionate side.
While the storyline has some quirks typical of Glee, with Sue picking her baby's name after Robin Gibbs from the Bee Gees and pretending that Michael Bolton is Robin's biological father, it is serious, too. In season 3, episode 15, "Big Brother," Sue finds out that her baby will have Down Syndrome. Sue can be kind and caring on Glee, despite her cruel actions, as seen by how she treats her sister Jean (Robin Trocki), who also had Down Syndrome. While Robin is sometimes mentioned, it would have been nice to see Sue taking care of her baby and for the show to focus on this more.
Robin Sylvester Became A Hit With Fanfiction Stories
While no details are given about Robin's character, there is a fan fiction story called Glee: The Future Of Us that shares hopes for who she becomes. In this story, Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) has left teaching and Robin follows her mother and becomes the coach of the Cheerios. Another child of a main character is there, too: Quinn's daughter Beth Corcoran, who Shelby (Idina Menzel) adopts, is the New Directions coach. In the first chapter, Robin is upset that the New Directions is singing again, which echoes how Sue acted on the original series.
Robin's behavior in this fan fiction echoes Sue's meanest quotes on Glee, as she tells her cheerleaders to make sure that the New Directions members fail or she will fire them from the team. Near the end of the story, Beth and Robin become kinder to each other. This storyline sounds realistic, and it's a shame that Robin isn't shown more in seasons 4, 5, and 6.
